About Sophie (On Trial 16/8/14)
Sophie is a gorgeous 2 year old Staffy x red Australian Cattle Dog and is just a joy to have around. She is tan with white and red speckle patches, white socks and a tiny white tip to her tail. She is the most gentle, happy and loving young lady. Everyone she meets falls just a little bit in love with her. Sophie just loves cuddles and adores it when you talk to her. Her tail is almost perpetually in motion and shows her appreciation for anything you do for her. Sophie is not a big talker for a Staffy but when she gets particularly excited she will let out a little high pitched Staffy sort of howl that is adorable. She will give a single bark if someone comes too close to her home or through the gate so would be an excellent guard/warning dog.
Sophie loves doggy games of all kinds and particularly loves fetch or keep away with her favourite toy, a squeaky orange shark. She is very taken with other dogs and delights in energetic play. She would love a doggy friend for company. Sophie has got along well with cats in the past but should be supervised and may not be ok with smaller pets like birds. She is a fit young lady that likes long walks and has taken it on herself to get her foster dad as fit as possible! She is ok on the lead in most cases but does get very excited when she sees other dogs. She is working on controlling this. Sophie knows basic obedience and is happy to learn new things.

Sophie just loves spending time with people and gets lonely easily so a family with someone home a lot would be ideal for this sweet girl. She is great with kids and really gentle with them but due to her size should be supervised with small children. She will very occasionally jump up when excited but is somehow very gentle when she does this. She has been taught to stay off beds and couches but loves to snuggle up on your lap or in bed if invited. Sophie will often just rest that big beautiful head on your lap or, if allowed, very gently jumps up and gives the most adorable cuddles when you are seated.
Sophie is great in the bath and enjoys the attention of a soapy massage. She has very fine soft fur that doesn’t noticeably shed. Sophie is well behaved in the car and will often just curl up in a ball and enjoy the ride. She will need a secure yard with tall fences. She can use a doggy door and is toilet trained. She is an unfussy eater, even learning to enjoy veggies and suitable fruits. She has shown no food aggression but can occasionally sneak a bone out of her foster brother Opie’s grasp. She would be happiest with a family but would be the sweetest most loyal companion for anyone.

Adoption details
(1) The first step is to phone or email the foster carer listed on the pet's profile (scroll to the bottom on the description). They can answer your questions and will ask you about the sort of home you are offering and may ask you to fill in our Adoption Questionnaire http://www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au/adopt/adoptionquestionnaire.rtf.
(2) If the questionnaire is approved you can arrange to meet the pet, usually at the foster carer's home or nearby.
(3) If that goes well we will arrange a property check so we can verify that your home and yard are suitable for the pet you've selected. We will ask to see photo ID.
(4) If both sides agree, then you can pay for and adopt your new family member! The two week trial begins on the day of adoption.
