About Baxter the Pomeranian (paid. On Trial 14/3/15)
Hello, My name is Baxter and I’m a middle-aged fellow of 7 years. I’m a Pomeranian cross (not an Ewok!). I get lots of attention when I’m out walking with my foster family because I’m so handsome. I really love my walks – bring out the lead and I get very excited! I get so excited that it takes me a little while to calm down, but once I’ve settled, I’m quite good on the lead, and will walk until you get tired. I can even run a little bit!
I live with a few people and a few dogs at the moment and I get along really well with my foster sister. She’s much smaller than me but I’m very gentle with her and we play together (when she feels like it!). I don’t mind my foster brother, but sometimes he gets on my nerves and we can need some help sorting it out.
I think I’d be best as only dog or with a female dog. I'd be best with a single person or couple with no children. I can get a bit anxious so I feel much more comfortable when I know that you’re in charge. If you are kind and consistent then I can relax. I’m usually pretty good at doing what I’m told and know my basic commands to sit, come here and to stay. I am good at learning new rules and other things too. I am house trained. I can be inside or outside during the day but need to come inside of an evening and to sleep inside.
I get scared of some things, like motorbikes and trucks, and this seems to be worse at night time. Sometimes when I’m frightened or I don’t feel like doing what I’m asked (especially moving from somewhere I’m comfortable and safe), I may growl and snap to tell you. They’ve been managing this by ignoring me when I do that and rewarding me when I do what I’m told. I’m not allowed on the lounges and it’s a good idea to not let me into bedrooms either. My foster family know it’s important that they set boundaries with me. This helps me remember that they control the resources. I can get uncomfortable being in a room on my own at night time with the door closed, so my suggestion is to have a see-through barrier (like a toddler gate) so I can’t get out, but I’m not so nervous.
I hope it doesn’t sound like I’m too much of a grump, cos I really do love cuddles and will give you a little kiss if you’ll let me and I have the biggest doggy smile! I have such beautiful hair so I need to be brushed and groomed regularly. I need a bath approximately every 3 weeks. I’m pretty easy to feed – I love chicken legs and lamb and I eat my dry food too.

Adoption details
(1) The first step is to phone or email the foster carer listed on the pet's profile (scroll to the bottom on the description). They can tell you all about the pet. They will ask you about the sort of home you are offering and may ask you to fill in our Adoption Questionnaire, in order to assess if it is a good match.
(2) Arrange to meet the pet, usually at the foster carers home or nearby.
(3) If that goes well we will arrange a property check so we can verify that your home and yard are suitable for the pet you've selected. They will ask to see photo ID.
(4) If both sides agree, then you can pay for and adopt your new family member! The two week trial begins on the day of adoption.
