Whiskey

Whiskey is the most placid and calm retriever puppy I have seen. He has really matured beyond his years in terms of behaviour and personality while still having a playful edge. While he still has the puppy prance and playfulness, he is a gentle sole that just fits in with your lifestyle. He has proven to be a great watchdog, barking only when needed and very rarely unnecessarily!
He is good with children and new people he meets and is very interested in meeting new dogs. He loves a cuddle and will often nudge you to remind you of this!

This dog has untapped potential as being an amazing family pet or your best buddy, he just wants to be loved. He loves going for walks and is getting much better on a lead each time. He loves being in a household with other dogs and would do well being in a backyard with space for a run. He loves to fetch and could play as long as your arm will hold out! He will require a new family that will make him part of their daily lives not just left outside as an onlooker; he is good in a car and happy to just have company around him.

On a lead he tends to want to pull, however calling him back or a quick jolt on the lead is enough to slow him down.
Whiskey will sit and wait for his meals, he also knows the sit, drop and stay commands, however he can try and get away with not listening if not made to do the command he has been asked (don’t give up – make him do it!)

He is definitely house trained; he is able to hold his bladder overnight and will pace at the door to let you know he wants to go outside. He will need further ‘maintenance’ training to ensure he does not fall back into bad habits, this is as simple as being consistent with his commands and making sure he does as he is told every time. He responds to training with food very well.

Whiskey would best suit a home with no cats as he does enjoy the "thrill of the chase". He has been introduced to our cat and while it is still he is not too fussed but the minute it moves he will chase it.

He does like exercising, typical of his breed and age. Throwing a ball for him in the backyard is enough if walking him is not an option. As mentioned previously he does cope being home alone during the day and when we are out, however he is with other dogs. He does sleep separately and alone at night (inside) and has not had any trouble with this at all.

So far the children he has been introduced to, he has been amazing with, very gentle and loving, however he is a big puppy and doesn't realize his strength so he may accidentally knock over small children.
