About Alaska Moon (On Trial 5/8/14) ~ Special Needs ~
Introducing Miss Alaska Moon, a cheeky 1 year old blue and white staffy who will charm your socks off. If you are a staffy lover you will adore her typical goofy staffy antics. She will talk and snort in excitement to see you, and loves to tell you to hurry up and get ready for walkies. Alaska Moon is a lounge lizard and snuggler and is content to lay on or next to you all day. If you let her, she gives you big kisses to show you how much she loves you.
Alaska Moon is only medium sized at 24kg with her back being just above knee height (50cm). In the yard she jumps from one big rock to another like a mountain goat, and also likes to jump from one lounge to the other inside like a gymnast. It's not unusual to see her standing on the armrest of the couch or on top of her kennel like Snoopy. She's used to being inside when her humans are home and is learning that being inside and especially at night time is relaxation time. Once she's jumped around for a short period, she will curl up on the lounge and barely move all night.
Alaska Moon is very cat friendly! She loves our 6 cats, and will happily lick and groom them. If the cats tell her off for being overly friendly or bouncy (as cats tend to do) she will get scared and hide behind you so they can't see her! Alaska Moon has bonded with Meelu the kitty and they are best friends. She will follow Meelu everywhere and they love to lay on each other ---> http://youtu.be/w8A50mNQdxQ
Alaska Moon is in foster care with 3 other dogs both big and small and gets on with them all. She would be best suited to a furever home with a medium sized playful and friendly dog, as she loves doggy games like chasings and tug of war. She is friendly with smaller dogs however she might knock them over during play as she's a bit clumsy when playing.
Alaska Moon loves her walks in the morning and night. We walk her using a Beau Pets Easywalk harness and she walks well. She is keen to sniff people passing by and she finds other dogs irresistible. She is still learning not to pull and staffy talk when she sees other dogs in her excitement to meet them, so she will need continued reinforcement on doggy etiquette as some dogs don't quite know what to make of her excited zooming, jumping and licking.
Alaska Moon is gentle with children of all sizes, she's just at the right height to give them kisses and cuddles. She is still learning not to jump up on adults when excited so will need a family who will continue training and socialising her in calm introductions. Alaska Moon is very eager to please and treat focused - she also listens to you (most of the time!).
Alaska requires 6 foot fencing (with no gaps at the base or places for digging) and a family where someone is home a lot of the time. She will not suit full time workers as she will try to find her humans if left alone for long periods of time. If there is someone home during the day she is content to sleep or play with toys. She loves to have a daily routine and is very settled once she knows that routine. Alaska Moon is not a barker, however she will get anxious and dig out to try to find her humans if left alone. Alaska Moon must be an inside/outside dog and must sleep inside at night as her hair is still very fine. She will need a jacket for sleeping during winter as she gets cold easily.
If you think you have that special home for the gorgeous Alaska Moon please contact her carer Jo on 0427 695 104. Alaska Moon is located in Gosford, NSW (the Central Coast) and will need to be adopted within driving distance of the Central Coast for a couple more vet check ups - please read Medical Notes. She is not available for Interstate Adoption.
Alaska Moon's adoption fee is only $400 and includes her desexing, vaccinations, flea and worm treatments, microchipping, and lifetime registration. You can see all our available dogs at www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au
Medical notes
When Alaska Moon came into care she had suffered demodectic mange (not contagious) for the first 10 months of her short life. She had an immune system collapse and was a very sick girl. Alaska Moon has been receiving mange medication and treatment for 3 months, her immune system has recovered. For the first time in her life she has the energy that she needs and has learnt to be a playful boisterous puppy and is making up for lost time!
Alaska Moon still needs daily oral medication for approximately 2 months (which we will supply). She will make a full recovery with the help of a continued nutritious diet to keep her immune system healthy. She needs 2 more check ups at our vet (which we will pay for). We are looking for a furever family who will commit to her medication short term and her wellbeing for the rest of her life. At the moment her skin scratches easily as her hair is still thin, however it will thicken over the coming months to protect her skin more. She will most likely always have a pink nose which will require sunscreen in summer.
Adoption details
(1) The first step is to phone or email the foster carer listed on the pet's profile (scroll to the bottom on the description). They can tell you all about the pet. They will ask you about the sort of home you are offering and may ask you to fill in our Adoption Questionnaire, in order to assess if it is a good match.
(2) Arrange to meet the pet, usually at the foster carers home or nearby.
(3) If that goes well we will arrange a property check so we can verify that your home and yard are suitable for the pet you've selected. They will ask to see photo ID.
(4) If both sides agree, then you can pay for and adopt your new family member! The two week trial begins on the day of adoption.
