About Whinnie
Whinnie, a maremma sheepdog, was (most likely) dumped in an area which is known for abandoned pets. She was scared but some kind people managed to catch her and take her to the pound. There, in a very unlikely way, she did really well, wagging her tail showing her beautiful nature. We still can't believe she wasn't adopted straight from the pound, but after her impound days she came to our shelter.
Whinnie arrived in a terribly thin state, and is still gaining weight with several meals a day. She loves her food, but shows no food aggression at all. Whinnie has been wormed, desexed, vaccinated, microchipped and lifetime registered.
All animals are special... all maremmas are special... but Whinnie is extra special! Rehoming her will be one of the hardest things to do, as a shelter we can't keep them all (if we could, Whinnie would not be listed!). She has learnt to heel, and never pull on the lead (important for a large dog like her). She prances as you take her on walks, and keeps in step perfectly (great as a jogging companion too). She ignores big and little dogs that bark through a fence at her, showing no aggression, and enjoys playing with other dogs her own size. She likes to get out and about, not timid around traffic, people or unusual situations. She lives for attention, and pushes into you for pats, kisses and hugs. If you ask her not to do something once, she doesn't do it again, as she really wants to please and do right. She is not a huge barker, and although she ignores and is trusted around pocket pets (the rabbits are, in fact, drawn to her and want to be her friend), she should not be left unsupervised with them. The same goes for chickens, she pays them no attention when they're in a coop next to her, but needs ongoing training and supervision when around them in a free ranging situation. Whinnie does not respect fences, so will need good boundaries.
Whinnie is suited to a companion home, where someone is around all day and will include her in their activities. She will need lots of room, other dogs in the family, and someone willing to continue her training. Application process is only available to locals, we will not send her interstate, and people must be willing to visit several times so she can get to know you before we decide upon her new family. This will be a lengthy process as we know Whinnie deserves only the very best.
