About Bonnie & Heather
Bonnie & Heather are 8 year old litter sisters who were surrendered because their owner moved overseas. PMAWS did rehome them but the new owners were unable to keep them due to personal reasons. They are both lovely natured although Heather is definitely the most outgoing and the bossier one. They are okay with other dogs and cats and would fit in to most situations.
They have never shown any sign of aggression, they both love food and would eat anything that is offered to them. Both dogs are on a low-fat dry food to help keep their weight manageable.
They were debarked many years ago though that doesn’t seem to have any negative impact on them.
Gentle, well mannered and adorable. \ Extremely young at heart great with kids too.
Some useful information regarding the Sheltie: The Shetland sheepdog is lively, intelligent, playful, trainable, and willing to please and obey. They are loving, loyal, and affectionate with their family, but are naturally aloof with strangers; for this reason Shelties must be socialized.
Shelties are vocal dogs, and are very alert to outside stimuli. The average Sheltie is an excellent watch dog.
The herding instinct is strong in many Shelties. They love to chase and herd things, and if an owner is not watchful, they will chase cars. Shelties love to run in wide-open areas.
Neglecting a Sheltie's need for exercise and intellectual stimulation can result in undesirable behaviors, including excessive barking, phobias, and nervousness. Fortunately, the reverse is also true; annoying behaviors can be lessened greatly by an hour of exercise that engages the dog with its owner. They do well with a sensitive, attentive owner.
Shelties have a double coat. The topcoat consists of long, straight, water-repellent hair, which provides protection from cold and the elements. The undercoat is short, furry, and very dense and helps to keep the dog warm. Mats can be commonly found behind the ears, under the elbow on each front leg, and in the fluffy fur on the hind legs (the "skirts"). The coat is usually shed twice a year, often at spring and autumn. Shaving these dogs is very bad for their skin and some do not regrow any significant amount of hair after being shaved, a condition known as alopecia.

Adoption details
The first step is to phone (preferred ) or email Port Macquarie Animal Welfare Service for assessment regarding prospective ownership and pet suitability.
Adoption Application forms must be completed and include a vet reference and photos of yards and fencing. A property inspection will be carried out on properties in the Port Macquarie area.
New dog owners must have a fully secure, fenced yard offering protection from all types of weather, subject to approval by PMAWS.
A 2 week trial period commences on the day of adoption.
All PMAWS dogs & cats are desexed, vaccinated, heart & intestinal wormed, flea & tick treated.
Introducing a Kitten/Cat into a new home (especially where either a dog or cat already lives) can be a difficult challenge. It requires patience, perseverance and supervision.
Once your new kitten/cat arrives home, it should be made to feel safe in its own room - we call this the "sanctuary". \ No other cat or dog should be allowed into this room. The kitten/cat will need bedding, food, water, a view out of a window and somewhere to hide. A good idea in dog and cat families is also a 2 metre tall scratching post, where a kitten/cat can retreat if it needs to.
Keep the kitten/cat in a room for the first few days, then, gradually, using a series of wooden chocks (or similar), open the door slightly to allow paws and noses to meet. It can then be opened further to allow the kitten/cat in and out, but not the older cat or dog in. We recommend that this should be continued for 14 days.
PMAWS urges all owners to keep their cats indoors.
