About Opie *On Trial in His New Home*
*OPIE IS CURRENTLY TRIALLING HIS NEW HOME - NO MORE ENQUIRIES/APPLICATIONS PLEASE* "There is nothing like a Dame (Dane)..." the song goes, and a fully-grown Great Dane is an incomparable sight!
If you like your dogs tall and affectionate then you can’t go past handsome Opie who is looking for an experienced large breed owner in a home where he can be part of the household goings on; will it be with you?
You can tell adorable Opie has been loved and well-looked after but unfortunately a change in his owners’ circumstances means he can’t go with them when they move, so we've promised to find him a truly special forever home. Opie is a very tactile dog who loves to touch you or be right beside you either leaning on you or snuggling into you with his face as you can see in his videos; he just thrives on human companionship and will happily follow you around all day. If you happen to be sitting down he may even try to clamber into your lap as Dane’s are often referred to as “the world’s biggest lapdog”! \ Opie is housetrained and well-behaved inside and will lie quietly on a rug when asked.
This gentle giant has fantastic manners and knows “sit” and “drop” and will only jump up on you when asked. Opie walks well on a lead and enjoys a 30 minute walk each day. He also likes a playful gallop, as you can see in his video, so a reasonable sized yard will be the go. He’s not really into toys as he’d much prefer just hanging out with a human and taking full advantage of the attention you give him. His preference seems to be for taller people, not that he’s at all aggressive just that he’d be better suited to a home where the children are of high school age as he’s not terribly interested in “shorties” and he’d quite easily bowl the little ones over when he’s excited. \ Opie is terrific with other dogs and is fine with cats too.

And some more where he was up for some fun: http://youtu.be/WV2_vsUd6Fo
Opie is not a “yapper” though will give a warning bark when there’s a reason to making him a reliable guard dog – Great Dane’s can be protective of their territory, and few thieves would risk jumping into the yard of a strange Dane! Being 2 years old Opie is over the worst of the “digging and chewing”. He also travels well in a car. \ Adorable Opie takes treats gently and is a slow eater who dines from elevated food and water bowls which will need to be continued in his forever home. This beautiful dog would be best suited to an indoor / outdoor lifestyle with either another friendly dog or in a home where he won’t be left for long periods of time due to his love of company. Secure fencing and a good sized yard, daily walks, bones to chew on and loads of love will make Opie very happy indeed!

Adoption details
Please Note: SARG and our animals for adoption are located in Mildura in North-West Victoria.
Our adoption process commences with completing an Application form which you'll find at: www.sarg.net.au
The Application is then reviewed, references checked and a yard check done, then, if there are no issues, a meet and greet is organised. If all goes well the last stage is a 28 day home-trial to make sure that everyone is happy.
If the trial is successful our “stray” is then officially considered adopted and the microchip transferred into the new owners name.
If anything goes wrong SARG will always take back one of our animals :)
This pet has been adopted and found love with its new family.
