About Steffie
Gwen and Steffie have had a bit of a rough road over the past couple of months but it is great to see that they are now really starting to turn a corner! After being saved from a long stay in the Pound and then having several major operations, these two sweet girls are coming out of their shell and would make delightful company for any loving owner. Although they might be small in size they are big in affection, Steffie in particular will be straight on your lap for cuddles any moment you take to put your feet up, while Gwen will appreciate any neck scratch or chin rub you can spare the time to give. These two dogs love being outdoors investigating and again, although small in size. can easily go for a 2 kilometre walk and still have energy to bounce around the house all day! Gwen is a creature of habit being quite an old dog as she likes her things in their place and doesn't like change. She sleeps in her dog basket every night, isn't interested in being on the furniture (beds or sofa) and mostly keeps herself to herself, although is very appreciate of affection and love if you go to her. Steffie is definitely the more bouncy of the two and will follow you round all day long looking for tummy rubs, then be on the sofa with you falling asleep on your belly or jumping round like a bouncy ball to greet you every time you get home from work. Due to these two dogs turbulent past, please expect them to take up to two weeks to get used to a new home. You will probably find they won't want to interact with you at the beginning and this is to be expected due to their ever changing surroundings recently, so don't be alarmed if they show no interest in forming a bond for a little while. They are best left by themselves and not rushed into affection as this can evoke a scared reaction from them to people they don't know due to unfamiliar territory. For this reason, these dogs would not be suitable for a home with young children (under the age of 16) or an environment with either other cats or dogs. These two dogs really need their prospective new owner to win their trust. At first Steffie can be very standoffish and quite frankly a bit snappy BUT she has proven on several occasions that, if you take the time to win her round, she will quickly become your best friend and start to follow you round for cuddles and lots of love. These two little dogs act as fantastic guard dogs, being quite noisy when they think the house is being approached (but not at any other time). They are more than happy being left in each other's company during the day so could go to a home with either a single or a couple who work full time but they still must have the time to give them a minimum of a 20-30 minute walk every day (if not ideally twice) and lots of love and attention in the evenings and weekends. Fully house trained, these two are a dream when it comes to toilet habits! Due to these dogs being the adventurous type and very small, you must ensure that all fencing is properly secured otherwise these two can double up as doggy escape artists!
