Ruth *On Trial in Her New Home*

*RUTH IS CURRENTLY TRIALLING HER NEW HOME* Meet remarkable Ruth, she might only have 3 legs but it certainly doesn’t slow this girl down! A change in her owners circumstances meant she could no longer keep her so now Ruth’s looking for an active household to call her own; will it be with you?

Born with an undeveloped rear right leg, which was amputated when she was only 8 weeks of age, Ruth copes exceptionally well with her “disability”. She knows “sit” and is fully housetrained and well-behaved inside - Australian Cattle Dogs are very intelligent and eager to work and learn, making them very easy to train; Ruth’s love of treats helps with this too. When she first came into care she had a phobia about going for a walk on a lead but after some patience and gentle coaxing Ruth’s now happy to accompany the man of the house on his daily run. \ She loves playing fetch and boy is she agile and quick! She reckons toys are fun and is always up for a game of tug-o-war. She’d be better suited to children over 10 years of age as she does have that herding instinct and tries to round the littlies up. Being an Australian Cattle Dog she isn’t yappy though will give a warning bark when deemed necessary and she’s quite protective of “her” yard when it comes to strangers making her a handy watchdog. Ruth is extremely loyal and loving towards her humans and enjoys attention; she just loves being with you.

This compact dog is quite low-maintenance only needing the occasional brush and bath. \ She does get nervous about travelling in cars though we’re not sure if this is due to a past experience or if she feels less stable in a car on her 3 legs as we’ve also discovered Ruth prefers a bed on the floor rather than sleeping on a couch and she rarely jumps up on you. She isn’t licky or in your face either though she does love a pat and will nudge your hand to continue if you stop before she’s ready.

Ruth would be best suited to an indoor / outdoor lifestyle and although she’s good around other dogs outside her carers’ yard we feel she would be better if she could have her humans all to herself in a home where she’s not left for long periods of time as Australian Cattle Dogs are best with those who will allow them to be a constant companion. Secure fencing and a good sized yard, daily walks/runs, bones to chew on and toys to fetch will make Ruth very happy indeed!
