About Oscar (On Trial 11/5/14)
Hello, I’m Oscar. I’m a very handsome Shihpoo – that’s a Shi Tzu Poodle X and I’m eight years old. I know I’m handsome because people stop me in the street and ask my foster mum what breed I am.
But more important than anything – I am looking for someone to love – who will love me back!
My previous owners worked full time and often went out in the evenings. They said I suffered from anxiousness when they were out and also felt I was afraid of the dark (and particularly of fireworks and thunderstorms). I am on medication for anxiety but my foster mum is now cutting back the dose with the hope of my becoming tablet-free. She rarely leaves me alone so my anxiety is no longer an issue. I sleep in the same room as her in my bed and she turns off the light – and guess what? I don’t mind!
However when other foster dogs arrived at her house I did mind and at first found it hard to share her love, but after a week it’s becoming easier. So I’d really like it if I was an only dog with someone who was there all the time and maybe one little doggie playmate.
Ideally I would suit an elderly person who doesn’t go out much who is after a new furry best friend.
I am an affectionate boy and will put my paws on your lap and look you in the eye with pure, unadulterated love. When I feel confident I play with soft squeaky toys – throwing them around the room on my own - and will even climb up on your lap if you invite me to. I love to be patted and talked to. When I am excited (if I think I may be going for a walk) I run round and round in circles and wag my tail like mad.
I enjoy little meals morning and evening of dried Optimum for small dogs with chicken and also love chicken necks, meaty bones and any other healthy treats you want to give me.
I travel really well in the car and am getting better at heeling when I’m out on walks (which I love!) I get rather aggressive and start yapping when big dogs walk past and I have a thing about boxers. Something must have happened with one in my previous life.
My previous owners say I am good with children but we are not sure how I would behave with cats.
I am very healthy – in the past two years have not had to go to the vet – except for my anti-anxiety medication, Prozac and Valium.
I am very well behaved – will sit and come when asked but I must admit I am prone to run off if I can – so need to be on the lead at all times.
Please contact my foster mum for more details – she is Rebecca on 0401 808 335 or email her on rebecaskin@gmail.com. I am in foster care in New Lambton Heights, NSW.
My adoption fee is only $250 which includes desexing, vaccinations, flea and worm treatments, microchipping, and lifetime registration.

Adoption details
(1) The first step is to phone (preferred) or email the foster carer listed on the pet's profile (scroll to the bottom on the description). They can tell you all about the pet. They will also ask you about what sort of home you are offering in order to assess if it is a good match.
(2) Arrange to meet the pet, usually at the foster carers home or nearby.
(3) If that goes well we will arrange a property check so we can verify that your home and yard are suitable for the pet you've selected. They will ask to see photo ID.
(4) If both sides agree, then you can pay for and adopt your new family member! The two week trial begins on the day of adoption.
