About Hazel (On Trial 22/10/14)
Meet Hazel, who is a small, female, 7 year old, Papillon mix. She looks like a pint-sized border collie! She is a happy girl who likes to be involved in what is going on with the family. She is easy going and will hang out with the man of the house when he’s working in the garage, or will have a little wander around the yard and come back inside when she’s ready. Hazel is happy to let you pat her and rub her tummy for hours!
Hazel loves a walk and walks well on the lead. She is not interested in passing dogs, just walks right on by with her tail high in the air! She gets on well with her two foster buddies that she lives with – a ridgeback and a Maltese.
Hazel has had her right eye surgically removed and the remaining eye has some loss of vision. This doesn't affect her lifestyle very much. She should not be let off lead and she needs a home with few steps as she may fall off the stairs or the landing, especially if she could fit under the rail.
Although not a puppy, Hazel is a quick learner and learned where the doggie door she is and getting up and down the two back steps easily. This is despite Hazel’s vision impairment.
Hazel has not been tested around children, however her foster carer thinks she would be good with them. The children would need to be old enough to understand Hazel’s vision limitations.
Hazel will usually come when she is called unless she is totally engrossed in sniffing something or there is a cat around. Although Hazel does not chase cats, she barks a lot if there is a cat nearby so she would not be suited to a household with a cat.
Eating is also one of Hazel’s favourite things to do! She also loves to go for with rides in the car, so would enjoy family outings.
Hazel sleeps indoors and would be best suited as a mainly indoor dog with access to inside during the day. She stays in her bed all night, but would be delighted to share your bed with you! She may need a little help getting up and down on the bed though. She is a little scared of storms, so may need comforting or to sleep in your room on stormy nights.
Hazel would be best suited to a home where someone is home most of the day to keep her company. She is a very beautiful dog with a friendly and happy temperament and will be a loving a loyal friend.
For more information or to meet Hazel, please contact her foster carer Nicole on 0419-244-584 or 02-4936-2735 or email downunder90@hotmail.com. Hazel is in foster care in Kurri Kurri, NSW (west of Newcastle).
Hazel's $100 adoption fee includes her desexing, vaccinations, flea and worm treatments, microchipping, and lifetime registration. You can see all our available dogs at www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au
Adoption details
(1) The first step is to phone (preferred) or email the foster carer listed on the pet's profile (scroll to the bottom on the description). They can tell you all about the pet. They will also ask you about what sort of home you are offering in order to assess if it is a good match.
(2) Arrange to meet the pet, usually at the foster carers home or nearby.
(3) If that goes well we will arrange a property check so we can verify that your home and yard are suitable for the pet you've selected. They will ask to see photo ID.
(4) If both sides agree, then you can pay for and adopt your new family member! The two week trial begins on the day of adoption.
