About Buddy
Buddy is a ray of sunshine every day - his happy go lucky attitude, determination to succeed and loving friendly nature remind me every day how we can all overcome adversities if we try hard enough.
Buddy loves his walk but loves swimming even more - he loves dams, rivers, the beach or basically anything wet. He is very good to walk off lead and doesn't stray too far and will come when called, he is strong on the lead but manageable. He enjoys running and has loves to burn off extra energy.
He loves his teddies and will always bring one when he says hello. He is fantastic with dogs of all sizes and great with cats and chooks too.
Buddy is an outside dog, he loves to sleep in a kennel and is very quiet. He will only bark if there is an intruder, he doesn't dig and doesn't jump so minimal fencing is all he requires. He loves going in the car and has basic training such as coming on command and sitting.
Buddy is endlessly cheerful and very affectionate and gentle. He thinks everyone is here just to pat him and everyone is his friend.
Buddy’s adoption fee covers desexing, microchipping and vaccination. he comes treated for fleas, worms and heartworm.
Buddy is looking for a family preferably with another outside young dog to be his friend, he would like a good walk/swim everyday, a fenced yard with flat access to the house/driveway and a good supply of teddies.
Medical notes
Buddy was assessed by SASH (Small Animal Specialist Hospital) when he was approx 4 months old. They found that he is a walking spinal dog which has little feeling from mid way down his back to his tail/hind feet.
This condition will not get worse and he has adapted to it with no pain. There is no ongoing cost associated with his condition and is on no medication.
Over the last 12 months he has made huge improvement and loves to run and play almost like a normal dog now. He can be at times incontinent; he would be best suited to being an outdoor dog or crate trained if he was to come inside.
He has little control over his bladder and only sometimes with his bowels - we have overcome this by keeping him outside and using plastic mattresses in his bed. \ As he has a raw diet he does nice dry poos which we can easily shake off bedding in the morning and sweep up any residue.
He loves to play with other dogs. He is superb with cats, horses and children. Buddy is a very happy go lucky dog and loves attention and aims to please his at all times.
Despite his disability he walks very well, he runs with a funny hopping gait - he is in no pain and loves his daily walk and swim as much as any dog his age. He is limited a little with jumping - he can get in and out of a sedan but needs lifting into the back of our 4WD. He can manage stairs reasonably well but long term would probably be suited to a flatter style house.
As he ages it will be important to keep him well exercised and strong, swimming and walking are ideal and to keep his weight in normal range so as not to stress out his rear joints too much.
Someone that has had an older dog will understand Buddy's needs - he is young and vibrant in most ways but has a few physical limitations such as high jumping and toileting. He is a loving boy and worth giving a chance! He is a joy and a delight and when you meet him you will see what a ray of sunshine he is.
