About Caviar (On Trial 27/4/14)
Caviar, a sweet 8 month old Border collie cross puppy with a gentle soul. She is very shy at first but once she gets to know and trust you she is a playful and loving girl; your very best friend. Caviar is extremely loyal and is most happy when she is close to you. She is very gentle with children and has perfect manners when with them.
Caviar loves quiet daily walks and walks well on a lead - alternating between walking beside you and trotting ahead but she is not a puller. She is still getting used to people, dogs, and noises on her walks – over time she will gain more confidence.
Caviar is in foster care with 6 cats and is content to let the cats entwine themselves around her legs and cuddle up to her. She's also lives with 4 other dogs; so is very dog social. She prefers bigger dogs as the little energetic dogs are way too intimidating, so will try to hide from them.
She would be best suited to a family with an existing playful, friendly dog of a medium to large breed as she would get very lonely if left on her own for periods of time. Having another doggy friend will also help her overcome her shyness, and give her a confident role model to follow.
Caviar needs to be an indoor dog when her family is at home and during the night, with access to outdoors for playing during the day. She is content to sleep the day away if you work as long as she has a doggy friend to snuggle and pass the time with. When you get home she is so full of joy that her big black eyes melt your heart as she gives you a big hug. Caviar is not destructive, or a chewer and will only rarely bark if she's startled or a stranger is near.

Due to Caviars' shyness and skin allergies (please see Medical Notes section), We will do a couple of meet and greets with her furever family to allow her time to grow confident with them and for her true gentle nature to shine through.

Medical notes
Caviar was rescued from a kill pound with severe skin allergies.She had chewed off most of the hair from her legs and stomach from the itch.
She has been in foster care for 2 months and in that time we have tried to pinpoint the cause of these allergies. Her hair is now re-growing on her legs, chest and around her eyes.
At this stage we believe she has food sensitivities, however she may have other sensitivities as well. She has responded well to a combination of a strict "Holistic" (brand name) grain free, meat free and poultry free dry food, and a prednisone tablet daily.
She is unable to eat meat or processed treats that other dogs get as rewards, so she is unable to share her fellow pooch’s food. Over time, her dose of Prednisone may reduce, however her furever family will need to commit to managing this to ensure that she doesn't relapse.
Adoption details
(1) The first step is to phone (preferred) or email the foster carer listed on the pet's profile (scroll to the bottom on the description). They can tell you all about the pet. They will also ask you about what sort of home you are offering in order to assess if it is a good match.
(2) Arrange to meet the pet, usually at the foster carers home or nearby.
(3) If that goes well we will arrange a property check so we can verify that your home and yard are suitable for the pet you've selected. They will ask to see photo ID.
(4) If both sides agree, then you can pay for and adopt your new family member! The two week trial begins on the day of adoption.
