About Doug
From the Foster Carer:
Meet Doug, the most handsome 3 year old Border Collie that I have ever met.
I picked up this gorgeous young man yesterday.
I got him in the car and he didn't seem too bad, had a look out of the windows and over the backseat, but he sat down (and calmed down) when he was asked to. (You can imagine, right then I felt like the dog whisperer)
I got him home and introduced him to my other dog with some trepidation, he was after all *high anxiety*.... Would he snap or bite or display any sort of bad behaviour? No. He didn't. In fact, he and Tre became pretty good friends straight away!
He knows how to sit and drop, he is a gentleman with his food. He can fetch the ball.
He is currently as happy as larry rounding up all of the flies in my backyard. He's not barking, he's not digging, he is not trying to run away or annoying the neighbours through the fence. He's just being a Border Collie.
His name is Doug, though he doesn't respond to it and if he is here much longer I will have to change it because my elderly neighbour is named Doug and I can't really stand on the porch calling for Doug day and night... It's awkward....
Doug (or what's his name) will need secure fencing to keep him safe while you are not home and plenty of things to keep his mind and body active. He will need at least 1hour or 2 of walking/running/fetching the ball every day. He is housetrained and only forgets his manners every now and again by jumping up, which is easily corrected and he is very gentle and only weighs about 14kg, so it's not threatening. No issues with food aggression, no dominance issues.. He's just an active young (3 years old) man looking for some fun and games.
He will need a new owner that either knows a little about the breed requirements already, or is willing to learn fast and has an active lifestyle. I am sure that he would love to have another doggy friend. At the moment he is untested with cats (as I don't have one to test him with) and small children, great with teenage girls that find him adorable. He has chased a couple of bush turkeys in my yard and I am sure that the herding instinct is strong, so you would have to keep an eye on him with farm animals.
He has a long coat that will require maintenance to keep him free from matting, a quick brush everyday and a good bath will be necessary.
Medical notes
Wormed, flea-treated, de-sexed, vaccinated and microchipped.
