Daisy (On Trial 17/5/14)

Meet Daisy, a Kelpie x Border Collie aged between 12 to 18 months. She is petite in size, weighing only 13.5kg, and full of energy. She has a lovely temperament, a wonderful personality and has lots of love to give to her new family.

Daisy is her happiest when she is out on her walks. Her foster mum walks her morning and evenings to help with her socialising, although this is not a problem as she loves everyone she meets on her walks and even yodels a greeting. She gets particularly excited when she sees young children. Her foster mum has been teaching her not to jump up when meeting people and she has responded well to this training.

She walks well on the lead – she just requires more work in this area.

Being a Kelpie she also enjoys the exercise. She is extremely alert and interested in everything going on around her. Her walks include along the edge of the lake. At first she was hesitant to go into the water as she was unsure but now loves to wade in the water and is very interested in the bird life around and on the lake.

She enjoys her food and shows no aggression when being feed. Daisy is intelligent and learns very quickly. She has mastered the basic commands and knows how to sit and come when called. She responds very well to reward based training especially when there are treats on offer. \ Because of her high energy levels and her intelligence she would be very well suited to obedience training and/or agility work.

She is toilet trained and comes inside at times, but is content to spend most of her time outdoors. \ She is happy to sleep outside in her soft crate which is set up with a favourite blanket and toy. She knows when it is bed time and happily takes herself off to bed. She sleeps well and does not stir all night. She is content to wait until her foster mum is ready to take her for a walk.

She had no interest in toys or balls when she came into the care of her foster parents, but with lots of play time she is learning to recognise that toys mean fun time. She is very content with her own company when left alone, but enjoys the company of other dogs when socialising. Not sure how she relates to cats as she has not come across any in her walks.

She is very well behaved, and does not fret, when left alone in the yard for hours at a time– no digging or attempts to escape. She is not a nuisance barker and does not feel a need to bark even when other dogs in the area are barking. She has not shown any distress or fear during a storm.

She loves going for a drive in the car and travel well. \ There have been times when her foster parents have found her sitting in the garage beside the car hoping to be taken for a ride.

She has a charming habit of crossing her legs when she sits down.

She would be suited to a forever home where there is plenty of space for her to run, perhaps a property. Ideally the family would include older children and someone in the family looking for a jogging or walking companion.
