About Sam the Kelpie (On Trial 29/3/14) to Melbourne
If you're looking for a great outdoor, fun-loving dog to take to the beach or bush then Sam is your man! Sam is a young, male Kelpie x German Shepherd cross approx 10 months old. He has a zest for life and absolutely adores playing with and in water of any description. He’ll play with sprinklers, the hose, splash in a tub and swim in the dams and river. If he feels he hasn’t had enough playtime with water he’ll play with his water bowl! He also loves all dog toys and will run and run all day. But don't worry, after he has his swim and play he will happily lay quietly in the yard and kennel.
Sam is very respectful of fences and does not dig or jump. The other dogs break out and he sits and waits for them to be put back in the yard. Sam will bark at approaching cars, people and cattle but is generally not a barker.
Sam is an amazingly smart dog and is eager to please. He didn't have any training before he was rescued. He is rapidly learning sit, stay, come, ‘no’ and to walk on the lead. He knows to now sit and wait for your attention instead of jumping up and to sit for his meals. He doesn't like to be bothered by other dogs when he's eating his meals so we simply feed him separately. Sam’s kelpie intelligence and his love for treats make him an easy dog to train. He will need to go to a home willing to further his training and help him reach his full potential.
Sam is terrific with children! They love him and he loves them. He is very well socialised with other dogs. He is currently living with 4 other dogs of varying sizes and temperaments. He plays nicely with all of his mates and is everyone's friend. Sam would suit a home with a similarly energetic and assertive dog.
Sam is eager to find a home that will include him in the family, give him plenty of playtime with water, games of fetch and daily walks. In return Sam will be a loyal, loving dog always ready for play or cuddles.
If you are interested in meeting Sam please phone Karla on 0467 091 478. Sam is available for adoption interstate. Sam is in East Gresford, NSW 2311 (between Singleton and Dungong).
Sam's $400 adoption fee includes his desexing, vaccinations, flea and worm treatments, microchipping, and lifetime registration.See all of our available dogs www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au

Adoption details
(1) The first step is to phone (preferred) or email the foster carer listed on the pet's profile (scroll to the bottom on the description). They can tell you all about the pet. They will also ask you about what sort of home you are offering in order to assess if it is a good match.
(2) Arrange to meet the pet, usually at the foster carers home or nearby.
(3) If that goes well we will arrange a property check so we can verify that your home and yard are suitable for the pet you've selected. They will ask to see photo ID.
(4) If both sides agree, then you can pay for and adopt your new family member! The two week trial begins on the day of adoption.
