About Arnie
NEEDS EXPERIENCED DOG OWNERS – PLEASE READ ALL OF ARNIE’S PROFILE BEFORE APPLYING
Hi, my name is Arnie and I am 5 years of age. I am a beautiful rare colour called "fawn blue". I come with not only my own pedigree papers but copies of my mum and dad's papers too. My original owners were forced into giving me up due to a change in their circumstances. I am terrified of cats and avoid them at all costs. I will hide if possible and will not enter a room if a cat is in there. Leaving my family has been very upsetting for me. I went to live with a couple after this but was so confused and sad that when I got to their home I took it out on my blankets and their cushions and got quite destructive so they returned me to Stafford Rescue. Dogs and people are not always a perfect fit and conditions need fine tuning. If only we could talk to you and tell you what is wrong it would be a lot easier.
Since my return I have been assessed by a behaviourist who says I am quite anxious and stressed. A holistic diet change to raw food to help my mental state has been implemented, plus I will be desensitised with thunder and loud noises. I will also be started on Prozac to calm me down and SRV would like this continued when I leave here
Despite being really anxious I am a very kind and loving dog and need more than anything a new home where I get a lot of exercise and a lot of your company. I need to be allowed inside, especially to sleep and be treated as part of the family. I am not the sort of dog you can leave in a backyard and expect me to amuse myself. I would be totally miserable as I have never been left alone for more than 4 hours. I need heaps of stimulation and exercise and most importantly lots of love.
I completed Level 1 obedience training and will respond to sit, wait, drop, move, gentle, shake hands and don't pull on lead. I will also wait at my bowl for permission to eat my dinner. I am smart and obedient most of the time unless I am really excited and then you may have to repeat yourself a couple of times. I am very frightened by thunderstorms and need to be inside at these times or I will try and break in. I love it when you take me for rides in the car and enjoy my walks. I also love getting bathed and any other water source.
I get a bit competitive with other dogs and can play rough with them in an attempt to gain attention so I am better suited to a single dog home. However I really enjoy meeting dogs big or small and get on well with them as a general rule and its only during playtime that I get a bit silly. I need a home with experienced dog handlers willing to work with my separation and anxiety issues. I previously lived with young children and missing family life could be one of my problems. My new owners must be patient and understanding with me and anyone who takes me must agree to undergo a consultation with a behaviourist. This is a condition of adoption.
My next home MUST be my last home.
Adoption details
If you think you can offer me a forever home please go to www.staffordrescuevictoria.org.au and fill out the Adoption Request Form. You will receive an email acknowledgement within 3 days. If you do not receive any further contact after this please do not be discouraged. It just means that a suitable application was received before yours. We encourage you to contact Jan: jan.hutton@optusnet.com.au every 2-3 weeks to show you are still interested in adopting. As we will already have your form on file it will fast track the process when a suitable dog does become available.
Adopt one of our dogs and we are there for you for the rest of the dog's life. If you find you and the dog are not suited it is a condition of sale that the dog comes back to Stafford Rescue.
