About Matt (On Trial 26/9/14) ~ cats, dogs, and people
Matt is a very handsome and healthy, 1 year old kelpie x. Despite having two kennels and a big day bed on the veranda to sit on, he chooses to sleep on door mats near whatever location we are at in the house. That's why we decided to name him "Matt". At night he sleeps outside our French doors where we have had to put a big doona for him to sleep on. Clearly Matt tolerates being outside but would very much prefer to be inside with us. He is not a barker.
Matt hasn't been around children but I believe he would be fine. He is a smart dog and eager to please people. He sits, waits for dinner and stays until you say "okay" and point to bowl. We're not sure if house trained as he stays outside here.
He likes to chase balls but hasn't learned to retrieve yet so expects you to retrieve it to throw again. He is okay off the lead, and returns, though not quickly if distracted by very interesting scents. He is good in the car. He is such a great dog, all he needs is someone to take the time to give him some training.
While Matt gets along with other dogs it is really human company he craves. He is fine with our cat, he just leaves her alone.
Matt eats dried dog food and tin though prefers the dry. He loves chewing on raw beef bones and chicken necks. He suffers quietly while having a bath but loves to be brushed. He has got used to water and started wading in the dam with our dogs.
He is fine with most dogs, though will get protective over his bowl when dogs come close at dinner time. This is no trouble and easily managed by feeding him away from any other dogs. He with people around him when he's eating. We have petted him and removed his bowl while he is eating and he is fine. He has shown no interest in chewing shoes or bedding unlike the other young dogs here.
Matt is good looking, loyal, affectionate and smart young dog. He will make a fabulous companion for any person that will exercise him daily, give him some training, include him in family life, and let him inside.

Adoption details
(1) The first step is to phone (preferred) or email the foster carer listed on the pet's profile (scroll to the bottom on the description). They can tell you all about the pet. They will also ask you about what sort of home you are offering in order to assess if it is a good match.
(2) Arrange to meet the pet, usually at the foster carers home or nearby.
(3) If that goes well we will arrange a property check so we can verify that your home and yard are suitable for the pet you've selected. They will ask to see photo ID.
(4) If both sides agree, then you can pay for and adopt your new family member! The two week trial begins on the day of adoption.
