About Charlotte
Charlotte, B.J, Sally, Mishka and Felicity (already adopted) all came from a puppy farm in NSW. They were used for breeding and their puppies sold to two pet shops that we know of in the Sydney metropolitan area. Who said dogs sold in pet shops don't come from puppy farmers? The puppy farmer sells his 'stock' to the pet shops for $500 each and they mark the puppies up to $1600. It is the law in NSW that pet shop puppies must be microchipped at the point of sale. They are also given their first vaccination (only one of the three are necessary) and wormed once or twice. That is all you get for your $1600!
When these breeding dogs came to us they were in appalling condition. According to the vet, Charlotte, BJ, Sally, Mishka and Felicity all had multiple litters and multiple ceasareans (which left them with adhesions and hernias internally) with stitches that had been left in for a long time and become infected. They had ear infections, mammary and other lumps and all the dogs needed major dentals. Their coats were putrid and full of sand and dirt, requiring many baths before they were clipped off to make them feel much more comfortable. Happily all of their vet work has been done, they have been groomed and bathed again multiple times and are now all recuperating with their wonderful carers. Charlotte, BJ, Sally and Mishka are enjoying going on walks to the park and are now enjoying their new lives with their foster carers. We think that they will be better being re-homed with another dog for company as they are used to living with many other dogs and get along well with them. A home where they are the only dog with owners who work all day will not be suitable but they will thrive in a home where they will be walked, loved and spoilt, something that they have sadly not had before. Charlotte, BJ, Sally and Mishka have coats that will require regular grooming and they are house dogs that are housetrained so will need access to the house via a doggy door or similar.
UPDATE 22 FEBRUARY: After another visit to the vet it was discovered that Charlotte has a grade 2 heart murmur and atrial fibrillation. Charlotte does not have any clinical signs so is currently not on any medication for this condition. Yet the puppy farmer still bred from Charlotte .... some people have no shame!
