Pippa (On Trial 5/1/14 for 4 wks)

PIPPA NEEDS A SPECIAL PERSON. She is a 12 month old "spoodle" Cocker Spaniel x Miniature Poodle. She needs someone who is experienced with nervous dogs and is confident they know how to manage her with kindness and positive reinforcement training. Pippa bonds very quickly and very closely with the people that she lives with and is very loving and affectionate with them. However, she can be unpredictable around people she doesn't know, especially if they crowd her. She recently bit 2 people who had come to visit her. They were not serious bites, they were warnings brought on by nervousness and over excitement.

Pippa is very sweet and fun loving. She loves to play with all sorts of toys and to go for walks. She has very good basic training. She will sit, lay down, stand up and beg, and shake hands. She is very smart and easy to train as she will do anything for a treat. She is housetrained and needs a home where she can be inside with people and sleep inside.

She is small to medium sized, about the size of a cocker spaniel and covered in beautiful golden curls which will require regular grooming (brushing, bathing and professional clipping).

Pippa is friendly and playful with other dogs that she lives with so long as they are friendly. She is not friendly to dogs that she meets while she is on lead. This can be improved with training. We have a volunteer trainer who will work with her free of charge. She will chase cats.

Pippa will be a very affectionate, sweet, and loyal companion to the right person or couple. She will require a home without cats, or children under 16. She is fine living with one other friendly dog. She wouldn't be suitable to a home where everyone goes off to work all day. She's not happy left home alone, but copes much better if she has another dog to keep her company. She will need to go to someone experienced with dogs and who will understand her issues and be patient and kind. We prefer she stay in NSW or ACT.
