About Marcus
Marcus is a very special little boy that came into the Pound both blind and almost completely deaf. From a health perspective and appearances Marcus has been a very neglected dog for a long time. He has deep cataracts in both eyes and will see Dr Mark Bilson at SASH for a consultation as we are hoping that he may be able to have surgery to regain some of his sight. Marcus also had dew claws, one of which had grown into the pad on his back leg. It was badly infected so has been removed and Marcus is now on a course of antibiotics to clear the infection but it would have caused him intolerable pain for a long, long time. Marcus is in foster care with a family and two other dogs and his foster carer was thrilled to watch him go outside in the garden for a sniff when he first arrived. When he had finished sniffing, Marcus climbed up three steps to come back into the house which was an amazing achievement for a little blind dog who has not been to the house before. He also gave a little wag of his tail! Marcus had something to eat and drink and then found himself a cosy spot in a bookcase in his foster carer's bedroom. She has since put a rug on the shelf for him to go to when he feels the need for a rest as he will have peace and quiet there. Marcus has captured a piece of everyone's heart who has come across him. He is so sweet and deserves to have a wonderful life with a family who will love and care for him. Marcus is not currently available for adoption.
Medical notes
UPDATE 22 FEBRUARY: Marcus has now seen Mark Bilson the ophthalmologist for a consultation and he confirmed that Marcus does have deep cataracts and other issues in both his eyes. It seems he has had many untreated ulcers over the years that have left deep craters in both eyes. On Dr Mark's advice Marcus will have surgery to improve what little vision he has and this will be done once full bloods tests have been performed to determine that he is well enough to undergo eye surgery. Marcus is doing very well in his foster home and his carer said that he is now a happy little dog who wags his tail and is becoming more and more animated in his environment. Marcus was a sad and sorry sight when he came to us after having been neglected for many years and we are extremely happy to have been able to help him and give him the gift of better vision. This specialist surgery is quite expensive so donations to help Marcus would be very much appreciated.
