Albi *On Trial in His New Home*

*ALBI IS CURRENTLY TRIALLING HIS NEW HOME* Meet beautiful boofer Albi!! He was an unhealthy 60kgs when we first met him though after a strict veterinarian approved diet and a daily exercise routine with his fit foster carer Albi’s now a svelte 40kgs and ready to find his forever home!

Adorable Albi was surrendered to SARG for rehousing when a change in his owners circumstances meant they no longer had the time for Albi which is when his weight ballooned. \ Being a purebred Labrador Albi LOVES food so a home where his food intake will be monitored and where he’ll get plenty of exercise is essential. There is a plus side to his food “obsession” and that means that Albi is very easy to train using treats as a reward - he knows “sit”, “shake” and “drop” and we reckon he’d be willing to learn more. We wouldn’t recommend him to a home with young children as he can be a bit boisterous when excited and he also needs to be taught to take treats gently as he snatches – it’s that greedy Lab thing! \ Albi really enjoys his daily walks but can be quite strong when you first head out so the introduction of a Halti or Gentle Leader would probably help with this. He didn’t like car travel when he first came into care though with some gentle coaxing (Schmacko bribes!) followed by some terrific adventures to South Australia and New South Wales Albi is now less reluctant to get in the car in the hopes it will take him somewhere exciting!!

Albi’s a friendly happy, boy who gets along well with other dogs just wanting to play and be social. \ He’s ok with cats as well, having shared a yard with two in his previous life. \ Being 3½ years old he’s out of the chewing and digging stage although he does like to dig himself a bit of a hollow to lie in when it’s hot; speaking of which, Albi really loves water, so a kiddie pool in the summer months is a must so Albi can cool off whenever he feels the urge to do so. He’s a terrific swimmer too and his carer often takes him down to the river for a dip and he reckoned the beach was pretty cool when he experienced it during their trips away.

Albi has only ever been an outside dog though we reckon he’d quickly adjust to an indoor/outdoor lifestyle in a home where he won’t be overfed and will receive daily exercise with either another dog he can burn off energy with or on his own, but only if he won’t be left for long periods of time. Secure fencing, bones to chew on and toys to play with will make Albi very happy indeed!
