Max (On Triall 21/12/13)

Max is a 6 yo Standard Poodle x Labrador ("Labradoodle"). He looks mainly poodle with just a hint of Labrador showing in his wider nose. Since being rescued, Max's personality is coming through. He loves playing, cuddles, going for walks, and rides in the car. He is very affectionate and loving towards children and gets along well with other dogs, large and small. I do not know what he is like with cats or other pets because I don't have any.

Max hasn't had much training so he does tend to pull on the lead and he hasn't been taught to return when called, so he just needs someone who will take the time to train him. Poodles and Labs are both known to be very smart and trainable dogs. You could take Max to an adult dog training class and he would do well. Max is not destructive and doesn't chew shoes or furniture, etc. He doesn't dig holes.

Sadly, for Max, he came from a home where he had been badly neglected and then abandoned and left to starve. When we rescued him he was very skinny and his coat was so badly matted that we just wanted to cry. But from the moment we found him he was wagging his tail and greeting everyone he met with lots of joy. Even when he was so hungry in his first few days, he didn't defend his food and just seemed grateful and happy to be treated nicely for a change.

In four short weeks Max has made remarkable progress very quickly. He has gained weight, his coat is filling in, and he is loving every moment of his new life. He was well enough to be desexed and vaccinated. He still needs to gain more weight and for his coat to grow in more but with continued TLC by his new family he will become the very beautiful poodle x he was always meant to be.

Max doesn't shed so he needs regular brushing (every few days depending on length), bathing (every few weeks) and clipping by a groomer (every 6 to 8 weeks) to keep him comfortable and beautiful. Clipping will cost around $90 so you should be able and willing to pay this if you want Max. Someone experienced with poodles or other non-shedding breeds would be a plus.

Max will need 6 foot, secure fencing (colour bond is ideal), as he has proven to be a bit of an escape artist. He needs a home where he won't be left home alone for long periods as he has had enough of being alone in a backyard and he deserves much better than that in his new home. He will need to be welcome inside the house, sleep inside, and be included in family activities.
Max is fully housetrained and uses a doggy door. He needs to be taken for a daily walk or jog.
