Hokey *On Trial in Her New Home*

*HOKEY IS CURRENTLY TRIALLING HER NEW HOME* “You put your left paw in you put your left paw out, you put your left paw in and you shake it all about, you do the Hokey-Pokey and you turn yourself around and that’s what it’s all about!” Meet Hokey, she’s a very special dog who we’re looking for a quiet, patient home for as she hasn’t had the best start to life; will it be with you?

Before being rescued by a caring neighbour Hokey had spent most of her short life on a chain with very little shelter and not much love only ignorance or abuse. \ The lady who saved her couldn’t keep her so contacted us SARG folk for help, so now Hokey is in foster care where she’s slowly learning that not all humans are nasty and that life can be wonderful and full of love and happiness.

At only 3.6kgs Hokey is a dainty little dog who appears to be a mixture of Chihuahua crossed with some sort of wire-haired Terrier and she does have long legs and a lovely curl to her bushy tail which never stops wagging. She was terrified when she first arrived in care though her carers own male Jack Russell x Maltese helped bring her out of her shell and she started to enjoy doggie playtime as well as stealing his precious ball. She wasn’t as forthcoming with her carer though you could tell she wanted to make friends as her little tail would wag at a million miles an hour (it was never between her legs) and she’d wriggle close then dart off again, so slowly, slowly Hokey started accepting pats on her head and then she allowed belly rubs and after a few days this little sweetheart was up on the couch enjoying proper cuddles! Sweet Hokey prefers it if her humans are sitting down as standing over her still scares her but bob down to her level and she’ll wiggle and waggle her way over for some love and reward you with soft kisses – she doesn’t appear to have a mean bone in her tiny body and her foster carer is yet to hear her bark.

Her carer hasn’t pushed Hokey as far as training goes (she definitely knows her name) and she’s not yet ready to venture out into the big wide-world on a lead though she’s happy getting her exercise trotting around in the backyard exploring every nook and cranny as she’s quite the busy little dog.

Adorable Hokey still gets frightened by loud noises so a quiet home would be best – she likes having an extra bed set up under the dining room table for security, so she can duck in there when new people arrive, then she can watch them until she’s ready to pop out and say “hi” . She is housetrained and sleeps inside at night (quite often on her carers bed!) so Hokey would be best suited to an indoor / outdoor lifestyle with another friendly dog for company or in a home with older humans who are perhaps retired, semi-retired or work from home and can spend time with her so she doesn’t have to spend long periods of time on her own.
