Winston (On Trial 10/1/14)

Winston is a darling Maltese boy. He’s 12 years old but still happy to go for big walks and visit the beach with the rest our pack. We have 3 medium sized dogs and he gets along very well with them as well as with any other dogs he meets. He does not like to be left alone so hopefully his new home would have another dog or wouldn’t have to leave him alone for many long hours.

Winston of course gets along with all people, young or old, and loves to cuddle up on the couch or on the bed. He sleeps in our bed with us at night. During the days when we are away, Winston stays outside with our other dogs. But when we are home and after dark he is always inside with us. Winston would not be suitable to live outdoors only. He’s not a barker, you barely hear a sound off him. He’s smart and trustworthy on and off lead.

When we got Winston he was dirty and very matted, had a very bad skin and had had a dislocated elbow in the past that had never been fixed. Nothing can be done with the elbow now, so he has a little limp when he walks. But regular exercise seems to have helped strengthen his muscles and he now walks the stairs well and enjoys all the same walks as the bigger dogs in our house. About three weeks ago Winston was diagnosed with hypothyroidism (low thyroid hormone) and receives medication for this daily. He’s doing so much better now! The medication is easy to give and inexpensive so it not a burden to provide.

Winston would suit many families: older people looking for a companion, families with kids that wouldn’t be too rough with him, families or a single person with other dogs. He’s just such an easy dog and more than deserves to have the best possible home for the rest of his life.
