Sebastian (On Trial 27/1/14)

Looking for the perfect family dog? Well hello there, I am Sebastian, a handsome 7 month old puppy. I am a Great Dane x Kelpie. I'm currently medium sized but am getting bigger every day. I am a seriously cool dog! I went to a big party recently and sniffed some smells, accepted many cuddles, had a nap and did it again. Screaming, running children? Loud music? Large crowds? No problem for me!

My foster carer says that I have all the qualities to become a well trained and loyal dog with your help in the training and socialisation area. I respond very well to treats which will make positive reinforcement training a breeze.

Although I am a puppy I am independent, determined and intelligent and I will let you know what I am thinking. I may vocalise my excitement to see you, or get a bit grumpy if you get cross at me, either way I will communicate with you on these matters. I'm still learning to only speak when you want me to. I think howling on command would make a really cool party trick! If you're looking for a guard dog that is all bark and no bite, I'm your guy!

I have already mastered sit, stay and come when I'm called, to sit and wait at mealtimes and what 'no' means. As for tricks I'm learning how to shake hands, beg, crawl, play dead and with these long legs I give you a really high “High Five”. I love to show off how smart I am and receive praise. I walk well on and off lead, however I am still a puppy and when I'm excited I sometimes pull. I love to go on very long walks and runs to burn up some of my energy. I also love to swim! My foster brother showed me how to and we swim together every day.

As I mentioned I am independent so I am happy to do my own thing and play outside, but I also like some quality time with my human family. Hopefully my new home will have many toys for me to exercise my jaw, and perhaps some big bones. Currently, my favourite toy is a kong filled with peanut butter. I get along great with other similar sized dogs. I love to wrestle, chase, swim and play fetch with my friends. At night we cuddle together on our beds.

Given my size I would not suit a family with small children or small dogs and cats. My ideal home will be an active household with very tall fences and one that will be inventive to find ways to keep me busy and stimulated.
