Alice (On Trial 9/11/13)

ON TRIAL 9/11/13: HAVE YOU EVER SEEN A MORE ATTRACTIVE BEARDED LADY? Alice is a 9mth old Irish Wolfhound X with beautiful brown eyes and a striking brindle coat. Her markings remind me of a tiger. She’s the type of dog whose whole back end wiggles when her tail wags, which is often. She currently weighs approx. 21kgs but still has some growing to do. At the moment her shoulders stand about 40cm off the ground.

Alice has the most easy-going personality. She is sharing the yard with a large male and female. If her doggy foster brother and sister are wrestling on the grass, she’s wrestling on the grass. If they’re snoozing on the tiles, she’s snoozing on the tiles. If they’re up for chasings and tug, she’s up for chasings and tug too. She loves toys as well. Alice loves attention and will even lean on people for it.

Alice is great with the kids (6 and 8yrs). She loves getting a pat and is very gentle. We let her inside with us when we are home and she is outside during the day when at work. I don’t think she’s been allowed inside previously – she politely waits for an invitation before entering! She currently sleeps with her blankie on a trampoline bed with her doggy friends in an indoor/outdoor room with access to the backyard.

Like all puppies Alice require s ongoing training and socialisation. She can sit for treats but needs practice at all other commands and walking on the lead. Because she is still so young housetraining is also on her to do list but we are working on this. Alice has not been formally tested with cats. She did walk on a lead past two in an enclosure and had no reaction. She will need ongoing further training but is very food motivated and learns quickly. Alice also needs exposure to new areas and people as she can be a bit shy. She travels quietly in the car.

Alice’s forever home will require a nice yard, secure fencing and adequate shelter. She would love some doggy company or she could be an only dog providing she gets plenty of people time, chew toys and daily walks to burn some energy and stretch those long legs.

We always recommend puppy-training classes to give your new family member the best start in life. All dogs and puppies need plenty of affection, exercise, and training.
