About Denim
Denim was rescued from the pound with his siblings when he was only 2 days old, and still had his eyes closed. A member of the public had found the litter of newborn baby bunnies in her garage, and sadly, did not bother bringing in the mother rabbit at the same time.
Denim was so young he could only drink milk, and was handreared and nursed through some very difficult weeks, as very few bunnies survive at such a young age without a proper bunny mum. Despite the odds, he and 5 others out of 8 pulled through! Denim was the runt and most difficult of them all , right from the start. Every time we checked the nest and got the babies out for feeding, we'd expect to find him dead. He hardly drank anything, was so fragile his life was balancing on the edge of a knife. At about 2 weeks of age he went downhill and could not drink any milk for days. He was only on antibiotics and subcutaneous fluids. He managed to recover enough to be able to be weaned off milk and was much safer when he could eat some solids. Having been the weak, sickly baby since birth, he has grown up with a bit more attention than the others, and really shows his gratitude for all the work that has gone into him. He is a licker, and loves having his head and ears rubbed!
Denim is a friendly boy, who gains lots of confidence from being around his siblings. He is very bonded to me (as I hand reared him) so adopters should be aware that he may have separation issues initially, and they will need to be very patient till he warms up to them. New environments and situations do send these babies hiding for cover, (as is expected as they are half wild hare), but they are being exposed to a range of situations both indoor and outdoor, and get more and more curious about the world around them. Denim would do best in a mature household, without loud or unpredictable sounds. He would love to be adopted with one (or the more the merrier) of his siblings.
Denim has now been desexed and vaccinated, so is ready to find his new home!
