About Pirate
Pirate is incredibly affectionate and gentle. He responds well to boundaries and consistency. He still get's excited when I come home and around new people but once he regains calm he's rewarded for that behaviour. He has a very waggly tail.
He is beyond adorable, that's a given. But he's also very regal. He get's so many comments when out walking. He looks big and tough but he's a big softy and loves meeting new people.
His recall once out and about isn't the best yet as he gets so excited about all the smells and surrounds.
He's generally fine with other dogs in the park and beach but can tend to run off a bit, so I watch him closely. He has been known to hump some unsuspecting dogs to the horror of the dog, their owner and of course me!
Unfortunately in a home environment he doesn't get along with other dogs and he get's so attached to his people he wants them all to himself. He's excellent around people and children and he's so gentle with food. He takes food gently and has been trained to sit when asked, I can pour his food and he'll wait until I say ok to eat it. You could take food out of his mouth and he'd let you.
He's met a couple of feisty cats once . . . he was terrified! \ haha
He is a bit of a sook and some loud sounds turns him timid and running for another room. I'd tried to desensitize him but to no avail. He was adopted quite young from a rescue group in northern NSW who rescued him from a pound that put his mother down. I'm not sure what his life was like until I got him but since then he has been adored.
He doesn't bark much but when he does it's for good reason. Someone near the house, or a dog passing. \ Someone at the door for example, but as soon as you open it he just wants to meet them! Not sure he'd be a great 'security' dog unless it's death by enthusiastic licking. But his manly bark is certainly enough to scare people off if they were scoping the place.
He loves to fetch balls and his toys, especially at home. Once out he get's distracted a bit.
He tends to quickly destroy soft toys so has lots of hard toys instead which he loves.
I've taught him to sit, drop, high five, high ten, bang bang and speak on command. \ He is quite receptive to treat rewarded training, very food motivated, and I think he's clever. Especially when focused. :)
He doesn't love the hose or baths but is much much better. I wash him in the shower so he can't go anywhere and so once in he's resigned to the fact it's happening and is fine. \ At the beach he will go into the water especially if other dogs are or he follows you in.
He's happiest in the company of someone and will happily settle down and sleep next to someone while the work or watch tv etc.
He's the most sweet nature and beautiful boy I've ever had or known and deserves only the best in future.

Adoption details
Our adoption process is about finding people and pets their perfect match.
His last weight at the vet was 36kg and that was several months ago. He's done the bulk of his growing and is a very healthy weight as you can see from the pics, not overweight at all despite his perfect execution of sad eyes around ALL food.
This pet has been adopted and found love with its new family.
