Lexie *On Trial in Her New Home*

*LEXIE IS CURRENTLY TRIALLING HER NEW HOME* If we had to describe loveable Miss Lexie in just one word then “ditsy” springs to mind! She loves to chase moths and flies only to discover, after many failed attempts to catch them, that they’re on the other side of the window! And as for jumping up on the couch for cuddles she often falls short but that could be due to her extra long body and not that she’s just a little bit unco, though either way she’s a delightful young dog and whoever adopts her will have hours of entertainment watching her somewhat silly antics!

Recently rescued from our local pound Lexie has settled in well into foster care where she’s making the most of being spoilt by her carers teenage daughters. She gets along well with the family’s two male dogs and enjoys having a play with a young female Chihuahua x Foxy who she’s also in care with. Lexie is a true scent hound (it must be the Dachshund in her) and loves to sniff her way around their yard and their home – life is one big adventure for this lovely lass!! She doesn’t have a mean bone in her body and although a little shy at first she gets along with everyone she meets. \ We wouldn’t recommend her to a home with boisterous children as they may scare this little petal but older chilled-out kids would be more her speed.

We liken Lexie to a Ragdoll cat as you can do anything with her especially when you pick her up as she goes all floppy and will just hang over your shoulder – she’ll happily go to sleep on the couch on her back with her head dangling over the side upside down and she’ll do this in your arms as well! She’s a vets dream as you can poke and prod her and open her mouth to check her teeth and she’s not fazed by it all. She’s not at all yappy or in your face and is fairly relaxed though can spark up when it’s play time as you’ll see in the video below.

We reckon Lexie was an outside dog in her previous life as she’s struggling with her toilet-training though her foster carer is persevering and to help with this she sleeps inside in a crate. She is learning to sit and walk on a lead as we don’t think she’s had much practice at this. Daily walks or runs around the backyard, secure fencing, chicken necks to chew on and toys to keep Lexie stimulated are also a necessity so she doesn’t get bored and up to mischief.

Adorable Lexie would be best suited to an indoor / outdoor lifestyle with either a doggie companion to learn from or on her own but only if she won’t be left alone for long periods of time as she’s used to having company and isn’t the type of dog who can be left in a backyard for 8 hours on weekdays while you’re at work.
