About Penny (On Trial 8/9/13)
Penny is a female Wire Haired Terrier x Shih Tzu, 11 years young. She has so much love to give and is always smiling and happy. She loves to go for a little walk around the block and is very good on the lead.
She gets on well with all 5 of my small foster dogs. She is very intelligent and loves to play with homemade toys. eg food boxes with a hole cut out and some treats inside. She loves to work out how to get the treats. You'll enjoy watching her do this.
Penny has the most beautiful coat. It is very, very soft all over except down the top of her back which has rougher texture. Her most unusual feature is that each hair on the top of her head is half black and half tan! It looks all tan until you brush it forward and you see she has black roots! It also has a smooth velvety feel. Quite a remarkable little dog, I'm sure you'll agree.
Penny is an inside dog and needs to be inside, at least when people are home, and to sleep inside. She is very nearly toilet trained, with only a rare accident just because she is in a new place. She would not be suitable to children under 12 because she prefers a more settled atmosphere. She is in good health. Small dogs like Penny typically live to around 16 years old so she still has plenty of time to start a new life.
Penny was very sadly surrendered by her owner who had to go into hospital. She would suit anyone who wants a clever, amusing, and very affectionate companion. She is very easy to love.
For more information or to meet Penny please phone foster carer Debbie on 02 4945 8756 or email smilingspider@vtel.com.au . Penny is in foster care in Belmont, NSW 2280 (near Charlestown in Lake Macquarie).
Penny's adoption fee is only $200 because of her senior status and includes her desexing, vaccinations, flea and worm treatments, microchipping, and lifetime registration. You can see all our available dogs at www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au

Adoption details
(1) The first step is to phone (preferred) or email the foster carer listed on the pet's profile (scroll to the bottom on the description). They can tell you all about the pet. They will also ask you about what sort of home you are offering in order to assess if it is a good match.
(2) Arrange to meet the pet, usually at the foster carers home or nearby.
(3) If that goes well we will arrange a property check so we can verify that your home and yard are suitable for the pet you've selected. They will ask to see photo ID.
(4) If both sides agree, then you can pay for and adopt your new family member! The two week trial begins on the day of adoption.
