About Gemma ~ 3 legged wonder dog! (On Trial 28/8/13)
Gemma doesn't let the loss of one leg slow her down. Gemma found her way into foster care in May, after being taken to a vet with injuries reported to be from a dog attack. She required her right foreleg to be amputated as a result. Gemma recovered quickly and has rapidly adapted to life as a 3 legged dog.
She runs around and plays with her companions like a young dog. She doesn't mind a bit of playful wrestling. She can still run around but with a bit of a bunny hop. She likes to follow her human companions around the house, too. When she is done playing she is happy to jump up on the lounge or curl up at your feet and nap .Gemma also loves to snuggle up with her human companions and will sleep in the human bed, if permitted. She is not too fussy with her food and especially enjoys chicken necks and butcher's bones. Toilet training is an ongoing process and she is showing improvement. She can also use the doggy door.
We estimate her age to be 2 to 4 years and her breed is anyone's guess, perhaps some Mini Foxy, Pomeranian, Papillon, or Schipperke?
Gemma has not been around larger dogs while in my care so I don't know how she responds to them. Her companions have all been of a similar size. She is generally relaxed and happy little girl. She is a sweetheart who will work her way into your heart. She is looking for a home where she can be inside and treated like a valued member of the family.
For more information or to meet Gemma please phone foster carer Michelle on 0400 891 647 (preferred contact method). Gemma is in foster care in Clarence Town, NSW 2321 (45 minutes north of Newcastle) and is available for adoption interstate.
Gemma's $400 adoption fee includes her desexing, vaccinations, flea and worm treatments, microchipping, and lifetime registration. You can see all our available dogs at www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au
Medical notes
Healthy young dog with 3 legs.
Adoption details
(1) The first step is to phone (preferred) or email the foster carer listed on the pet's profile (scroll to the bottom on the description). They can tell you all about the pet. They will also ask you about what sort of home you are offering in order to assess if it is a good match.
(2) Arrange to meet the pet, usually at the foster carers home or nearby.
(3) If that goes well we will arrange a property check so we can verify that your home and yard are suitable for the pet you've selected. They will ask to see photo ID.
(4) If both sides agree, then you can pay for and adopt your new family member! The two week trial begins on the day of adoption.
