About Nelly
Our beautiful Nelly is seeking her forever home. Regretfully, her foster carers are not able to take her on a permanent basis.
Nelly is a black 9.2hh Shetland mare. She is level headed with a reasonably unflappable nature, good to trim feet, clip (...even her head and only needs to be twitched for between back legs...) and float.
Like many of us Nelly is not particularly keen on the dentist. She last had her teeth done 15/06/2013. The dentist advised that she is in her early twenties (21/22), has one missing bottom molar and her teeth are solid and in excellent condition for her age.
A home where Nelly gets to engage constantly with people (...she loves to be right in the action...) would really suit her. She also loves other horses, so an equine friend is not essential but would be a bonus.
Nelly seems to particularly love the attention of children with lots of kisses and cuddles. She has had children on her back and shows potential as a leadline pony.
Nelly responds well to voice interaction. For example when on a lead line and the handler asks her to walk, trot or halt with their voice and body she will respond prior to reinforcement being required from the lead rope. Or if she is anxious she settles quickly with a stroke and soothing vocal reassurance.
All of this aside and with her being a Shetland, she needs a home with horse sense, clear boundaries and routine (...she loves routine...).
Due to Nelly's age she will require feeding which will consist of daily mixed feeds and a quantity of hay. The amount of feed will depend on the pasture she is on. She will also require regular worming and hoof care.
This sweet and endearing little pony comes with a halter, lead rope, full grooming kit, cotton combo day rug, rain sheet for cooler or rainy days and 600 denier poly filled rug for nights through winter.
Nelly is currently located on the Sunshine Coast, Qld, but all potentially suitable homes in Australia will be considered.
Adoption details
We ask all people looking to adopt to fill an enquiry form.
You can receive this by emailing lwarren@maggiesrescue.org or visiting our webpage www.maggiesrescue.org
We will then organise a time for you to meet with the foster carer and the pet you are interested in adopting.
Maggie's wants this to be a good experience for you, and we will occasionally suggest a different cat or dog as your situation may not meet the needs of the individual pet.
All our pets leave for their new homes on a two week trial. At the end of this period we will transfer the microchip to your details and the adoption is complete.
Your pet is a Maggie's Pet for Life, please consider this before adopting.
This pet has been adopted and found love with its new family.
