About Kelly
Gorgeous Kelly is the perfect dog for a kelpie lover that is looking for their next or newest companion. She’s obviously attractive and is, of course, very smart and eager to please. But this girl is also highly adaptable, doing well in both rural and city settings.
Housetrained with an obedient nature, Kelly knows how to sit, stay, drop and comes when called. She’s happy walking on a loose lead and is basically a dream when it comes to manners. She currently sleeps inside in her dog bed and spends her days outdoors with other dogs. She’s never shown any inclination to escape or dig and happily respects others’ space, both canine and human.
Kelly hasn’t shown any particularly strong working drive and isn’t hyper-active, but neither is she a low energy kelpie that would be happy with a few walks a week. We’d classify her as a medium energy kelpie that will be at her best with at least daily exercise to be healthy and happy. \ Fortunately she’s not choosy. Whether it’s chasing horses, going for a run with you or having a huge ball-and-dog-chasing session in the local park, as long as she can indulge her speed demon tendencies she’s happy as a clam!
Kelly does take a minute or two to warm up to a new canine acquaintance on first meeting and sometimes offers up a soft growl, but is fine once she gets over her initial shyness. She varies between playing chasey and wrestling, simply finding the right space with each dog. She’s also been great around horses, so if you’re the equine loving type, she might enjoy coming along for the ride.
This adorable girl is slightly smaller than many kelpies, which makes her a nice size for most situations. We think she’s best suited to a home with at least one other dog, and ideally a home that is prepared to provide structured leadership as she has shown a tendency towards getting sooky or demanding pats if she thinks she can be rewarded for it. That said, a little leadership goes a long way and she is a dream dog when she knows who’s boss! She has shown a tendency to chase horses, so may be best placed in a home without equine tenants unless there’s time and willingness to do some desensitization training.
Most kelpie lovers will recognize all the traits of a fantastic dog here, so jump in folks because we don’t expect her to last long!
