About Leo
Leo is a beautiful natured gentleman of approximately 8 to 10 years of age. \ He is placid, and lives life at a slower pace, trotting around the block, the garden and the park, never in a hurry.
After living, we think, in very rough conditions and being found starving on the streets, he has taken some time to come out of his shell. Initially he was bewildered, scared, emaciated and hungry. After several weeks in foster care he is in excellent physical condition, although his stomach hasn't caught up yet - we think he is making up for long term starvation). He seems a lot more assured, relaxed and loving, especially to his human carers, to whom he has bonded much more so than to his foster canine siblings. He gets quite unhappy if left alone where he cannot see his human carer, and is happiest snoozing in a comfy spot next to his designated human. \ In the last week he has started to wag his tail and roll over to expose his tummy for rubbing - and you can now expect your nose to be licked if you get him within tongue range.
When we got Leo, he had not walked on a lead, nor was he toilet trained. He has since learnt to walk on a lead (occasionally he needs to be reminded to keep walking rather than stand/sit still!) and his toilet habits are excellent. He will bark to let you know he wants to go out and as long as you recognise this and escort him out (even in the middle of the night), he will dutifully go outside. At night, his preferred place is in bed with a human, and he has been sleeping with my daughter. He does need to be placed there and lifted off in the morning as he cannot jump on/off the bed.
He does not seem too interested in other dogs. When with his foster siblings, he does half-heartedly bark at our cat (who shrugs it off) and "chases" larger dogs in the park. We have never seen him doing either when he is alone.
So we think that Leo will do best as an only dog with an older couple/person who is mostly home and who can provide a small amount of daily exercise (not that much is required), love and companionship to our gorgeous boy, who will return both a thousand fold.
Leo will come with his own collar, lead, name tag, coat and blanket.
