About Shadow (On Trial 28/7/13)
Shadow is a 7 year old Schipperke (skip-er-key) He is a friendly, affectionate little man. He loves to have his chest and head rubbed. Shadow is great with other little dogs. He is very energetic and playful, he loves to play with toys and do zoomies around the yard with the other dogs. He loves to go for daily walks and to check everything out. He likes to know what is going on constantly so that he can be comfortable and know that you are safe. He is a good guard dog that is protective of and devoted to his people and can be aloof toward strangers until he decides they're okay.
Shadow is good with kids, though he would prefer kids above the age of 5 so they know to be gentle with him. Shadow will not be rehomed where there are any cats or pocket pets such are rabbits or guinea pigs.
Schipperkes have a coat which will require regular brushing. He needs to be bathed every few weeks to keep his black glossy coat in great condition. Coming into summer he will shed lots of fur so he will have to be brushed more than usual. He enjoys having a bath.
Shadow has come into foster care as he was found wandering around by himself. When his owners were contacted they said that they no longer wanted him. Shadow is showing behaviour consistent with not being properly socialized when he was younger. He will bark at males when they first enter my home. After being spoken to quietly and patted, he settles down.
Shadow will need to be an inside family member when he is adopted. He has chosen to sleep on my bed as that is where he feels safe. During the day he is happy to sleep on his doggy bed. He loves to follow me around the house. Shadow will need to have someone home with him so would be best suited to a home where not everyone works such as with an active retired couple.
For more information or to meet Shadow please contact foster carer Michelle 0468-939-132. Shadow is in foster care in Nelson Bay, NSW (Port Stephens north of Newcastle) and is available for adoption interstate.
Shadow's $400 adoption fee includes his desexing, vaccinations, flea and worm treatments, microchipping, and lifetime registration. You can see all our available dogs at www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au

Adoption details
(1) The first step is to phone (preferred) or email the foster carer listed on the pet's profile (scroll to the bottom on the description). They can tell you all about the pet. They will also ask you about what sort of home you are offering in order to assess if it is a good match.
(2) Arrange to meet the pet, usually at the foster carers home or nearby.
(3) If that goes well we will arrange a property check so we can verify that your home and yard are suitable for the pet you've selected. They will ask to see photo ID.
(4) If both sides agree, then you can pay for and adopt your new family member! The two week trial begins on the day of adoption.
