About Doris (On Trial 15/6/13)
This is Doris! Doris’ story made headlines last year when the disturbing news of her abandonment was reported via the local media. She was cared for by Cooranbong Animal Hospital and was brought to the RSPCA Hunter Shelter Rutherford for veterinary care and has since made an exceptional recovery. Doris was transferred from RSPCA care to the care of Dog Rescue Newcastle on 3rd June and is in foster care while she adjusts to being in a home environment again.
You can read about her sad story here http://www.lakesmail.com.au/story/1421641/dog-found-in-tied-sack-on-edge-of-road/
Doris, a beautiful female English Staffordshire Terrier around 5 years of age. She is a sweet girl who adores people. She can sit, come, shake hands and it toilet trained. She loves to walk on lead and is not bothered by other dogs when being walked in dog parks. As soon as you put your shoes on she expects to go with you!
While in care at RSPCA Hunter Shelter Rutherford she was socialised with other dogs and got along fine with them and she does tend to play boisterous with other dogs. Doris loves to play games; tug of war, chase, ball and peek a boo. She loves to chew on squeaky toys. She will need to have plenty of toys to chew onor she may chew on something you don’t want her to. She is a very social dog and doesn’t like to be alone. She prefers to have company with her all the time and loves cuddles and being massaged and is happy to lie on the floor or couch beside you.
Doris is a quiet, gentle and loving dog with a beautiful temperament. Due to her boisterous nature when playing we suggest she not be homed with children under the age of 12 years or the frail or elderly. She is not suited to be homed in an environment that has pocket pets or cats.
Her ideal forever home would be one where she will be walked daily, and have lots of time to spend with her family. She is very low maintenance, and so long as she has toys or human company or another dog her size to keep her company through the day, and would be allowed to be inside with you when you were home, she would fit right in to any home!

Adoption details
(1) The first step is to phone (preferred) or email the foster carer listed on the pet's profile (scroll to the bottom on the description). They can tell you all about the pet. They will also ask you about what sort of home you are offering in order to assess if it is a good match.
(2) Arrange to meet the pet, usually at the foster carers home or nearby.
(3) If that goes well we will arrange a property check so we can verify that your home and yard are suitable for the pet you've selected. They will ask to see photo ID.
(4) If both sides agree, then you can pay for and adopt your new family member! The two week trial begins on the day of adoption.
