Diesel *On Trial in His New Home*

*DIESEL IS CURRENTLY TRIALLING HIS NEW HOME* If you’re after an awesome furry companion without going through the “puppy stage” you can’t go past this loveable goofball!! Diesel is a terrific dog, you can tell he’s been well loved which is why his surrender to SARG for rehousing has been reluctant but we have promised to find him a loving home where he can continue to be adored as much as he always has been!!

Diesel was recently advertised for sale by his owner on Facebook but the only people who appeared to want him were pig hunters and Diesel is a lover not a fighter – he doesn’t have a mean bone in his body!! So lucky for Diesel one of our volunteers spotted him and put his owner in touch with us SARG folk. This handsome young dog was adopted as an 8 week old pup to grow up with their new baby who he’d lie quietly next to, even alerting them when she cried, but unfortunately their circumstances changed and they found themselves having to move into a rental which was unsuitable for their beautiful boy. So now Diesel is loving life in foster care with his new doggie friends while we find his forever home!

From his foster carer:
Diesel is a delight. He seems to have had some basic training, but he is also an extraordinarily quick learner. He knows how to sit (he has to sit and wait to be allowed inside, or for his treat when I leave in the morning, or for his dinner) and he is quickly getting the hang of 'wait' and 'stay'. He very quickly learnt 'on your bed' when he’s inside with us at night and also 'out of the kitchen' as our own dogs aren’t allowed in their either – I’m amazed by how swiftly he learns commands! He’s quite strong to walk, especially when he first starts out so he may benefit from the use of a Halti or even a harness. He is toilet trained (he and our dogs sleep inside overnight and he hasn't had any accidents - he makes a point of peeing every time we go outside, even if we are only going out to get more wood for the fire!). He loves everybody especially when they’re giving him attention and cuddles - we've had tradies in, friends over, and he just thinks people are the bee's knees. Diesel is also great with the cat; he didn't rush at her like a lot of other dogs do, he just explored quietly, then sat and waited for her to come out and now he gives her a sniff and a lick and ignores her the rest of the time. Haven't seen how he is with little kids yet (only because sometimes to get your attention he jumps up on you, or he doesn't watch where he's going when he plays rough and tumble style so he could quite easily bowl a toddler over when he’s excited). He is good with other dogs - he adjusts his behaviour depending on which dog he is interacting with. For example, he knows my smaller terrier is boss, and he shows that when they are playing as well as being mindful of her size (except sometimes when he gets a little over enthusiastic and she pulls him into line again), but with our bigger Labrador, he is as rough and tumble as you can get and they both love it! Diesel really enjoys a game of tug-o-war though he doesn’t appear to understand fetch, but he's catching on (he chased the ball yesterday and got to it first, but then didn't bring the ball back!). He’s definitely a follower not a leader when it comes to other dogs. Whoever adopts loveable Diesel is going to be very lucky!

As Diesel is housetrained and enjoys an inside/outside lifestyle we would want this continued in his forever home with either a friendly dog to hang out with or on his own so long as he won’t be left alone for long periods of time as he’s used to having company and can be quite sooky without some as Staffy’s often are.
