About April
A is for affectionate and adorable, P is for Princess and playful, R is for really cute, I is for intelligent and L is for lovable .... these are the words that describe April to a tee! April’s foster carer has looked after many Shih Tzus for PAWS and says that April is the best foster dog that she has ever had the pleasure of minding. April was surrendered as her owner was moving and couldn’t take April with her. She is house trained and can hold on for many hours while her foster carer is at work then sits at the front door and greets her carer with a wagging tail when she arrives home. April lives with two other female Shih Tzus belonging to her foster carer and they all get along well. As you can see from April’s picture she does love her food and has unfortunately been allowed to overeat in her previous home so needless to say April is now on a very strict weight reduction diet (under vet instructions). April loves to sleep on her foster carer's bed and has been described as a very good foot warmer, not moving all night. April has a heart murmur and is on medication for this but the particular drug she is on can now be made up by a compound pharmacy and is much cheaper than when in tablet form so the cost of the drug is about $20 per month. April will be on these drugs for the rest of her life but, once she loses a few kilos, will be in quite good shape and go on to have a happy and healthy life. April has a beautiful soft coat that will grow and require regular grooming and is a house dog so must have indoor access at all times.
UPDATE 30 JUNE: April, aka 'Princess Fluffball', is almost at her goal weight and is looking trim, taught and terrific! She is very affectionate and loving and is always happy to sit by your side on the lounge. April would love her new home to be with a retired couple or a family who are at home a lot to give her the love and attention that she deserves. She would also love the company of another small dog but would be OK on her own. April loves going in the car and is very well behaved. She barks a few times when her foster carer walks out the front door because she is sad to see her leave but jumps around for joy when she returns. April has a beautiful, soft coat and loves being pampered at the local doggy beauty parlour and will require a professional clip 2-4 times a year and also enjoys her regular brushing. April is house trained and uses a doggy door with ease so access to the house at all times is a must. April's foster carer will provide 12 months supply of her heart medication.
