About Ben (On Trial 8/6/13)
Ben is an 11 month old Koolie x. He is very striking with one blue eye and one blue/brown eye. He is a delight to be around, a happy go lucky chap who is just happy to be in your company. He is not a clingy dog and will not sit all over you, rather prefers to be at your feet or beside you.
Ben is friendly with cats and kittens! He is house trained and is well behaved inside. He likes to be outside enjoying the sunshine and playing in the yard. He sleeps in his kennel of a night and will happily take himself off to bed when he is ready.
Though Ben is deaf that doesn't stop this dynamo dog. He is a pleasure to walk and just loves to go to the beach and run around! Ben has learnt some basic commands (hand signals) such as sit, and come and is doing well at continually obeying. He will pay lots of attention to you looking for direction when out and about. He is an active dog and does require to be walked at least every second day for a fair distance, and provided with toys to keep him occupied when you are not home. He is a good eater and non aggressive. He is happy to play with his doggy friends or simply be alone. Ben will be your shadow and happily follows you around the yard. He is not a digger, or an escape artist. Ben is great with children he loves them, and will not jump up on them. *** To watch a video of Ben on the beach copy and paste this link to your web browser http://youtu.be/cosUm-1kbDY
Ben can be standoffish with new people but once he knows that he can trust you he is your best pal. Ben rarely barks unless there is something to bark at and because he is deaf all the dogs in the neighbourhood can go insane and Ben won't pay them any heed.
Ben would benefit from further obedience training and there are plenty of training groups that are able to assist with training a deaf dog. So if you think that Ben is the perfect dog for you, please pick up the phone and call me! He eagerly awaits a forever home of his own.
For more information or to meet Ben please phone Cassie on 02 4966 1669 or 0428 595 916 or email c3027218@uon.edu.au. Ben is in foster care in Woodberry, NSW 2322 (near Maitland) and is available for adoption interstate.
Ben’s $200 adoption fee includes his desexing, vaccinations, flea and worm treatments, microchipping, and lifetime registration. You can see all our available dogs at www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au.
Medical notes
Ben was born deaf. He lives a normal life and responds to hand signals.
Adoption details
(1) The first step is to phone (preferred) or email the foster carer listed on the pet's profile (scroll to the bottom on the description). They can tell you all about the pet. They will also ask you about what sort of home you are offering in order to assess if it is a good match.
(2) Arrange to meet the pet, usually at the foster carers home or nearby.
(3) If that goes well we will arrange a property check so we can verify that your home and yard are suitable for the pet you've selected. They will ask to see photo ID.
(4) If both sides agree, then you can pay for and adopt your new family member! The two week trial begins on the day of adoption.
