Meet Firecracker!

Firecracker is a special boy full of personality, he is very friendly and inquisitive, and he loves to run around his cage jumping around like a little firecracker!

He can at times be hard to catch but with time and age he is sure to settle down and become a very cuddly little man.

Firecrackers mum was surrendered to the shelter with her sister our team was assured that both girls where not pregnant but due to our police we kept both girls here for the gestation period to ensure that they were both not pregnant, Well time showed that both girls where indeed pregnant.

The first birth went very smoothly and both mother and baby’s where doing well but the second birth (Firecrackers mum) did not go to plan although Firecrackers mum did very well and was happy and healthy she did not want to have anything to do with Firecracker unless it was to run over him and without us intervening his chances of surviving where next to non,

Firecracker was separated from his mother and we began to hand feed him sadly he did not take to being hand fed as well as hoped and he began to lose weight and was becoming quite weak,
On the 3rd day of hand feeding we received a call from a vet surgery that had some 3 guinea pigs handed in as strays 2 females and 1 male and was wondering if we would be able to take them,

We arrived to pick the guinea pigs up and we were informed that one of them had given birth to a single baby; we took them all back to the shelter and separated the male from the girls and the new baby.

We decided to see if the new mother we just rescued would take to Firecracker and care for him as her own and we were thrilled to see her mothering him and nudging him under her to feed! He is so lucky to be alive!

Firecracker can be adopted with one of the other male guinea pigs available for adoption here at the shelter or on his own to be a friend for another male guinea pig need a buddy,
