About Katie (On Trial 9/5/13)
My name is Katie! I am a stunning, 11 month old, purebred, red kelpie. I'm a delightful, sweet girl to have around. I'm very social and love meeting new people. I absolutely love your attention and live for hugs and belly rubs. My foster mum doesn't have children but I have been around them in the past and get along well.
I can be timid meeting new dogs but still friendly. I am energetic and playful, though sometimes my overly boisterous foster brother can be a bit much for me. Even during those times I don't show aggression. I am good with large and small dogs.
I have basic manners and training. I know sit, down, to come when called and what "no" means. I also sit at feeding time and wait for the word to eat. I know to sit instead of jumping up but can sometimes forget in my excitement. I am also good to bath. I am quickly learning little tricks like shake, play dead and beg. I am super easy to teach and want nothing but to please you. I react very well to positive reinforcement training. I walk on and off lead.
My favorite things include running and wrestling with my kelpie x foster brother, to play fetch, to have cuddles after exercise, and to perform my tricks and receive praise.
I have a working dog's herding instinct and I've been around cattle and horses. I have been taught not to chase horses and I haven't chased cattle without permission. A forever home on a property would be ideal, however I can be happy in a yard situation with regular walks. A family that would take me to dog parks or beaches where I could run in open spaces would be great!
In my foster home I am an outdoor dog but if I were allowed indoors too I would love that! At night I am locked away in a smaller area and will willingly go to bed in there when I'm told. I haven't been heard barking or fretting during this time.
Kelpies are known to be an intelligent and energetic breed and I am no exception. I will require a loving and responsible home who understands my need for regular exercise and stimulation. In return you will have a loyal, intelligent, fun and loving girl. If you're a person or family with an active lifestyle looking for a beautiful, sweet young dog to join you then I'm your girl!

Adoption details
(1) The first step is to phone (preferred) or email the foster carer listed on the pet's profile (scroll to the bottom on the description). They can tell you all about the pet. They will also ask you about what sort of home you are offering in order to assess if it is a good match.
(2) Arrange to meet the pet, usually at the foster carers home or nearby.
(3) If that goes well we will arrange a property check so we can verify that your home and yard are suitable for the pet you've selected. They will ask to see photo ID.
(4) If both sides agree, then you can pay for and adopt your new family member! The two week trial begins on the day of adoption.
