About Squirrel
Squirrel’s story is a very sad one! Squirrel had somehow managed to escape from his home and was walking along the road when a car came round the bend and poor Squirrel went under the wheels. The driver then sped off leaving him laying on the road injured. A very kind passer-by picked him up and took him to the closest vet surgery in the hope that any injuries he had would be attended to at once. Squirrel was very sore in the back and his eye was injured but the vet gave Squirrel the once over and after a day or so just sent him off to the local Pound. Squirrel was not in a good way and PAWS was asked to take him from the Pound under duty of care as soon as possible. Squirrel was taken at once to the rescue vet who diagnosed a deep laceration right across the cornea of his eye. Squirrel was in agony and his eye had become infected but the vet believes that if Squirrel’s eye had been treated immediately he would be in a better position now. Squirrel has been in foster care for about two weeks getting all of the attention in the world. The vet consulted with an ophthalmologist on the best treatment plan possible to try and save his eye and he has had every ointment and antibiotic administered but sadly the infection was too deep and Squirrel had his eye removed on Monday 8 April. Squirrel’s owner did not come forward to claim him so we now have the pleasure of finding him a new home once he has recovered from his surgery. Squirrel has a lovely personality and, despite all that he has been through, still manages to look on the bright side of life. We will update you on Squirrel's progress soon and his wonderful foster carer will also update his photo and story when he is ready to go to his new home.
