About Rusty (2) (On Trial 8/9/13)
Rusty is a 1 year old, Australian Cattle Dog, male. He's a real survivor. When he was dumped at the pound he had a chain embedded in his neck which required 2 surgeries to remove. But that is all behind him now and he is an extremely happy, affectionate dog who is always trying to please you. He is an energetic young dog and is looking for an active family who will take him walking, jogging or swimming.
He is friendly toward other dogs. He has made friends quickly with my 2 large dogs. He has made progress with my cat and is now curious & friendly towards him. He is also a real lounge lizard at night and loves to lay next to me watching the TV.
Rusty is a fast, willing learner. He can already respond to sit and will come when called. He has started walking on a lead, and will need consistent basic training to bring out the best in him. He is an intelligent dog who responds well to positive reinforcement and food rewards. Rusty will sit for his food but tends to rush eating it. He thoroughly enjoys his treat kong.

Rusty will be best suited to an active family, with a back yard. He will need high fences as he is quite a tall boy but he has made no attempt to get out of my yard. Rusty would love to have at least 1 other medium to large playmate but may be too boisterous for small dogs. He loves the water and is discovering the fun of playing with toys. He has started playing fetch and is now getting the idea of returning the ball. He enjoys coming inside of an evening for some family time. He sleeps quietly on his bed all night.
Rusty is looking forward to finding his forever home where he can experience the love and freedom that was denied him as a young dog. He is like a big puppy when allowed to run freely in the yard. He is still a pup at heart and has a lot of love to give to his new family.
For more information or to meet Rusty, please contact foster carer Michelle on 0422 652 530 (after 4pm weedkays or weekends any time). Rusty is in foster care in the Cessnock, NSW area and is available for adoption interstate.

Adoption details
(1) The first step is to phone (preferred) or email the foster carer listed on the pet's profile (scroll to the bottom on the description). They can tell you all about the pet. They will also ask you about what sort of home you are offering in order to assess if it is a good match.
(2) Arrange to meet the pet, usually at the foster carers home or nearby.
(3) If that goes well we will arrange a property check so we can verify that your home and yard are suitable for the pet you've selected. They will ask to see photo ID.
(4) If both sides agree, then you can pay for and adopt your new family member! The two week trial begins on the day of adoption.
