Rex

Oldie Rex is a real sweet heart and did not cope well when locked up in kennels at a shelter so he came into our care where he lives in foster care with two other dogs. His history is unknown but when he arrived he was in good condition apart from being a little underweight. He is between 7-8 years old and in good health. His teeth have had a good clean and overall his oral cavity is in great health for a dog of his age.

His black coat is smooth and becoming increasingly glossy. He shows all the signs of age with lovely “grey goggles” around his eyes and grey hair on his muzzle and chest and a little stiffness in his hind legs. Rex has a small white patch on his chest and a few white toes.

Rex’s most obvious features are his quirky ridge of hair on his neck and he is missing a toe from his hind left paw. This does not slow him down or affect him at all! He carries his ears in a cute forward rose position.

Rex is a lover. He enjoys human and canine company and defers to his younger, larger housemate who is a four year old male Greyhound. On daily walks he shows good manners and is responsive to gentle guidance. Rex will do better with regular short walks rather than longer once-a-day exercise. He is regularly exercised off leash on a fenced oval where he enjoys stretching his legs before returning to his human for a cuddle.

He still shows flashes of young-dog goofiness and runs around the yard in the evening letting off a bit of steam. He sleeps right through the night and has only barked a few times out of excitement – a single, deep woof.
