About Lolly (On Trial 24/2/13)
Lolly is a 2yr old female, Great Dane X. She is an absolute dream. Giant and gangly- yes! Silly and playful- yes! Lolly is the most beautiful, friendliest and sweetest giant you will ever meet. I expected her to be super clumsy, super destructive and full of unbridled energy. I was so surprised to meet a gentle, well-behaved and sociable girl with a gorgeous personality. Within two days she had learned her new name, to sit and drop and to take food gently. How delighted I was to find that this darling was such a dream.
Lolly is very sociable and loves all dogs of all sizes, but some might find her enthusiasm overwhelming. She doesn’t have an aggressive bone in her body and wants to be friends with everyone. We have taken Lolly out to a variety of social events and public placed and she has been fantastic at all of them. She wins the heart of everyone she meets.
Lolly appears to be free of any health issues. She is a very strong and inquisitive girl. She is reasonably easy to walk on lead. She has had little training but her eagerness to please would make her a fantastic student. I don’t think she would be suited to a home with cats or other small animals. A test in controlled circumstances would be required. She hasn’t done anything in particular but she is very interested in chasing the birds we see when out walking.
Lolly loves her humans and would need a home where she would be allowed inside and out. At night she loves to sleep at my feet and just be around me. We are still working on toilet training but again, this is just something that needs time and patience- after all, she’s only been out of the pound for a week. I found Lolly on pound's ‘put to sleep’ list and was so very relieved when DRN agreed to support her rescue. When she was impounded, Lolly’s best friend was a Chihuahua. They came in and played together without any notion of size differences. Apparently they were a favourite team and kept everyone entertained with their slapstick antics.
Lolly behaves herself when inside but gets bored when I am at work. Having said that, the worst mess I’ve had to come home to was a trail of torn up egg cartons. She has never tried to escape from our yard. Lolly is best suited to a home with a generous yard and high fences, so she can spend her days taking in the scents and rolling around on the grass. Lolly loves exploring- smelling the world around her, checking the wee-mail, making new friends and having a chin-wag with the neighbours.
For more information or to meet Lolly please phone foster carer Kylie on 0422 084 042 or email oscartilly@hotmail.com . Lolly is in Wallsend, NSW (Newcastle) and is available for adoption interstate. Adoption details
(1) The first step is to phone (preferred) or email the foster carer listed on the pet's profile (scroll to the bottom on the description). They can tell you all about the pet. They will also ask you about what sort of home you are offering in order to assess if it is a good match.
(2) Arrange to meet the pet, usually at the foster carers home or nearby.
(3) If that goes well we will arrange a property check so we can verify that your home and yard are suitable for the pet you've selected. They will ask to see photo ID.
(4) If both sides agree, then you can pay for and adopt your new family member! The two week trial begins on the day of adoption.
