About Rusty (On Trial 12/2/13)
Rusty is a 5 year old, male, purebred Jack Russell Terrier (a scruffy coat) with pedigree papers. He has a beautiful nature and enjoys a belly rub. He will play with a ball but hasn’t been taught how to bring it back yet so it’s really just a one sided game of fetch.
Rusty hadn’t received any training before coming to rescue but Jack Russells are known as the Einsteins of small dogs so he is doing very well with learning some commands now. He'd be great to take to dog training classes. He grew up on an unfenced farm and he loves to run so he'll need a daily walk.
Rusty loves to play chase, be it with his foster family's dogs or the cats. So he would suit a home that doesn’t have cats (for the cat's enjoyment). His ideal home would be with an active family with or without kids but preferably other dogs for company. He hasn’t been toilet trained yet but needs to be because a friendly, small dog like him needs to spend time inside each day, bonding with his family. It's not hard to housetrain an adult dog, it usually only takes a few days. Rusty is fine outside when no one is home but of course he'll need shade and shelter.
Rusty will need a properly fenced yard and you need to be careful when opening gates as he will take any opportunity to go out and explore the world. He only barks to alert us when there is someone at the fence/gate or near the house. He is not an excessive barker but a good watch dog. Rusty has a medium length coat that needs a brush every few days to keep his coat looking nice, or a clip if you don’t like the scruffy look, and a bath approximately every month.
Rusty is a fun and affectionate little man who will bring lots of sunshine to a loving home.

Adoption details
(1) The first step is to phone (preferred) or email the foster carer listed on the pet's profile (scroll to the bottom on the description). They can tell you all about the pet. They will also ask you about what sort of home you are offering in order to assess if it is a good match.
(2) Arrange to meet the pet, usually at the foster carers home or nearby.
(3) If that goes well we will arrange a property check so we can verify that your home and yard are suitable for the pet you've selected. They will ask to see photo ID.
(4) If both sides agree, then you can pay for and adopt your new family member! The two week trial begins on the day of adoption.
