Dylan (adopted 8/2013)

Dylan, border collie x kelpie is only 12 months or so old, and very playful and energetic in the typical excited puppy fashion. He loves to play both by himself or with the other dogs and will keep himself entertained, usually with a ball, stick, thong, shoe or whatever he can find at the time.

He hasn't shown any aggression at all to either other dogs or people. In fact he is very trusting and generally seems to be happy with any human interaction. He's very affectionate- tending to lick your heels and feet as you try to walk and loves a pat and to sit on the couch with you. He rarely barks except if our horses are at the fence or if our dogs start when someone arrives. He sleeps outside with no problem. He hasn't shown himself to be food agressive, but tends to crowd around his bowl to protect it. I have tested him to see what happens when I move his bowl or annoy him when he's eating and he hasn't done anything.

Dylan is a mix of two very clever breeds. He would do great with further training. He already has basic commands like sit and drop (when food is involved), and tends to pick up on what the other dogs are doing. He would make a great family pet, probably suitable to older kids only because he is highly energetic and playful. He is basically gentle. Being a young dog he just needs a little training. Dylan would also be suitable with another dog, probably even preferable because he does like to play a lot and likes the company if people aren't there to entertain him. He hasn't tried to jump our fence or shown any signs of trying to escape. Being a Kelpie cross he would decent sized big yard or someone who could exercise him daily with long walks.
