About Rascal (On Trial 28/12/12)
Rascal is an 18 month old Poodle x Shih Tzu . He is young, friendly and playful. He loves people. He likes to play fetch and tug of war with my dog and to play with toys. He isn't a barker; he barks when people knock on the door but settles quickly.
Rascal likes snuggling up with his people and playing with his toys. Has not been around children or cats yet. He is good with other dogs, and once introduced, will be up for a play.
Rascal doesn't appear to have had previous training but is responding well now and is very food motivated so is easy to train. You could take him to dog training classes, which would be a fun and bonding experience.
Unfortunately, Rascal had to have his coat shaved due to severe matting when he came into rescue, but it is soft and silky and will be gorgeous when it grows back. He has a non shedding coat which needs regular brushing (every few days depending on length), bathing (every few weeks) and clipping (every 4 to 8 weeks) to keep him comfortable and beautiful. On the plus side, he won't drop hair around your house or leave it on your clothes.
Rascal is an inside dog and needs to be allowed inside when the family are home and to sleep inside. He is housetrained and will whine at the door when he needs to go out.
He is a friendly young boy who loves being with his people. He likes to play and go on walks but is happiest snuggled up to you having a tummy rub.

Would suit a person/family/couple who are at home a lot and want to share their lives with a loyal companion. Another dog to play with would be good too.
For more information or to meet Rascal please phone foster carer Mary on 02-493-39951 or 0401-960-888 or email Blawearie131@hotmail.com . Rascal is in foster care in East Maitland, NSW (Newcastle) and is available for adoption interstate.
Rascal's $450 adoption fee includes his desexing, vaccinations, flea and worm treatments, microchipping, and lifetime registration. Dog Rescue Newcastle www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au is a not-for-profit, volunteer organisation. Your support allows us to continue saving other homeless dogs like Rascal.

Adoption details
(1) The first step is to phone (preferred) or email the foster carer listed on the pet's profile (scroll to the bottom on the description). They can tell you all about the pet. They will also ask you about what sort of home you are offering in order to assess if it is a good match.
(2) Arrange to meet the pet, usually at the foster carers home or nearby.
(3) If that goes well we will arrange a property check so we can verify that your home and yard are suitable for the pet you've selected. They will ask to see photo ID.
(4) If both sides agree, then you can pay for and adopt your new family member! The two week trial begins on the day of adoption.
