About Fossil
Fossil is a delightful boy who charms his way into everyone's heart. He was named Fossil because the pound volunteers thought he was a senior (he is actually three or so years old). Fossil was nearly blind, hopping on three legs and had a skin condition. But, as with some of our foster dogs, he seems to know he is waiting. What for? For us to fix him and to find his special forever family.
On the way to the eye specialist, Fossil walked into a lamppost, he was that close to being blind. He was most likely born with cataracts. One eye we could do nothing with but he now has sight in other eye. And doesn't Fossil know it! He looks around eagerly at everything. He has probably never seen so clearly. Fossil has had his leg operation to fix his dislocated hip and although one leg is now slightly shorter than the other he has no pain at all, even though he occasionally limps from habit.
Fossil loves to relax and sleep on the sofa but he is always alert if there is action on the horizon. He loves nothing better than to be in the car with you and help you with your daily activities. \
Fossil would love to share his home with a canine friend. He doesn't like being on his own and would be thrilled to have a doggy sibling who will run down the hallway with him to help protect the house. Fossil is reluctant to go outside on his own, perhaps because he has always been at risk before and regards being put outside as a punishment.
Fossil loves his food but is well mannered and waits patiently for the older dogs to finish before he investigates their bowls. He loves squeaky toys being thrown for him and will bring them back for another throw before he runs to his bed to demolish them.
Fossil wants very much to please and will benefit from more training so he can learn to recall and so on. He is an intelligent boy and you can see him sussing things out.
Fossil is a sturdy little boy of 12.6 kgs who talks a lot to you. Now he has learnt how to bark (he didn’t know at first) he is learning to minimise his excitement barking.
He thinks he is a lapdog and loves to sit/lie on you but, when you go to pick him up he rolls on his back so he is a dead weight. Fossil still needs eye drops every second night at the moment from his operation and he is such a good little guy letting you do this.
Oh, and does your phone ring a lot and do you tend to ignore it? Well no more… Fossil starts howling as soon as the phone begins to ring so you will be answering it more!
But most of all Fossil has a generous kind nature and everyone – people and dogs – love Fossil. As we do.
Fossil is located in Melbourne.
